The Wise Men Visited Jesus Matthew 2:1-12
Bible Story Brief -
• Far from Bethlehem, wise men watched the stars in the nighttime sky. One night they saw a new star shining brightly. They knew the star meant a special child had been born. They wanted to see Him and give Him gifts.
• The wise men traveled across the desert sand to Jerusalem. There they asked King Herod, “Where is the special child? We saw a bright star in the sky and knew He had been born.We want to worship Him.”
• King Herod was not happy to hear about Jesus. He called the priests and teachers together and asked them where the baby was to be born. They answered,“In Bethlehem. That’s what the Bible scroll says.”
• Then King Herod told the wise men to go to Bethlehem. He said, “Go! Look for the boy. When you find Him, tell me so I can go and worship Him, too.”
• After leaving King Herod, the wise men saw the bright star again and followed it until it stopped over the house where Jesus was. They were very glad! They entered the house and saw Jesus with His mother, Mary. The wise men bowed down to worship Jesus. Then they gave their gifts to Jesus.
• Mary and her little boy, Jesus, looked at the sparkling gold. They smelled the sweet perfumes of frankincense and myrrh.
• When it was time for the wise men to leave, God told them in a dream not to go back to King Herod. So they traveled home on a different road.

Christmas - December 21

Dear Parents and Grandparents,
This Sunday, December 23, 2012 we will have a different kind of service. At 10:30 we will have a birthday party for Jesus. click here for more information on this service. We will have one morning service with no groups or childcare. Also we will have two services at 6:00pm and 7:30pm that will be different from the morning service. Childcare will be available for the night services, birth - Kindergarten. You will not want to miss these services. I hope to see you there.
The month of December I have been sharing Christmas traditions with you. I asked several of you and a few of my friends to tell me stories of their childhood Christmas traditions. Not having a 9:15 Sunday School time, I saved this one for this week. You can start or add this tradition this Christmas Eve. Please enjoy my friends story in his own words. He is one of three sons.
My Childhood Christmas tradition...
My greatest memories of Christmas revolved around Family. Every Christmas Eve, after the hustle and bustle of the day, Dad would build a fire in our wood burning fire place. Now a days a wood burning fire place is a rarity with the convenience of gas and propane. But there is just something about the crackling of the wood and unexpected color changes of the fire that you just can't replace.
After the fire had been built, we all sat down to eat a meal together. After we shared a meal it was time for hot chocolate or apple cider, my favorite was hot chocolate. With beverage in hand, we all sat down for what had become a tradition with our family. Christmas just wouldn't be the same without dad/mom reading Christmas stories to us.
Sitting by the fire the first story began..."twas the night before Christmas and all through the house." After we finished this holiday classic, we turned our attention to the a another story of Christmas. Luke 2:1-20 The story of Immanuel, God with Us. The King of Glory came in flesh, born of a virgin, lived among us was the finale of the night. Now with three boys, reading through two stories seemed like eternity and there were probably a few yawns, and thoughts of tearing into my gifts the next morning distracted me, but I will never forget the priority my parents placed on Christ at Christmas.
I am thankful for the Christmas tradition that my parents created. A tradition that focused on the true meaning of Christmas. A tradition that will never be forgotten, in fact, to be continued.
Parents, create your traditions, but while you create ask yourself a question, "What traditions are we creating that points to Immanuel?"

I hope you and your family have a very merry Christmas!
Let me know if there is anything I can help you pray about.
Bridget :)

FAMILY PLUS Preschool - December 14

Hi Parents and Grandparents!

I have enjoyed reading about your family traditions this month that you have sent me. If you do not have one, I hope you can start one or more of the great traditions that I have reported to you so far.
Here is another one for you;
You can find a charitable organization that needs volunteer help either for Christmas Eve Or in preparation for Christmas Day activities.
Shelia Weathers made me aware of an event that she is helping put together for The Bridge Ministry called "The Bridge To Christmas". It is at Municipal Auditorium on December 22nd and the guests of honor are the homeless/poor. You can buy a toy, wrap it, mark on a tag if for boy or girl, for what age, one word what toy is and get it to Shelia. You and your family can also be the hands and feet of Jesus that day. Contact Shelia at 426-5758 to sign up or for more info.

Remember it is not the gifts they will remember, its the experience of being together and the bonding time that your family has together. Your family traditions can be passed on to generations after generations.

This Sunday, December 16, 2012, your preschooler will hear this story -

Bible Story Brief -
Jesus Was Born Luke 2:1-20
• Caesar Augustus made a law. He wanted to count all the people in the country. Joseph and Mary had to travel from Nazareth to Bethlehem to be counted. It was almost time for Mary’s baby to be born.
• In Bethlehem, Mary and Joseph needed a place to sleep. The inn, where travelers stayed, was full. So they stayed elsewhere. During the night, Mary’s baby was born! Mary wrapped her tiny baby boy in soft cloths. Gently, she laid Him in a manger.
• In the fields nearby, shepherds were taking care of their sheep. Suddenly they saw an angel.A bright light shone around them. They were frightened.
• The angel told the shepherds, “Do not be afraid. I have good news for everyone. Today in Bethlehem a baby has been born. The baby is Jesus, God’s Son. You will find Him wrapped in soft cloths and lying in a manger. ”Then many more angels gathered, and they praised God.
• After the angels left, the shepherds said, “Let’s go to Bethlehem and see the baby!” They hurried to Bethlehem where they found Mary, Joseph, and Baby Jesus. Jesus was lying in the manger, just as the angel had said.
• On the way home, the shepherds thanked God.They told everyone the good news that Baby Jesus—God’s Son—had been born. People were amazed at what the shepherds said. Mary remembered all the things that happened on this special night, and she thought about them over and over.

Bible Verse - Good news! Jesus was born. Luke 2:10-11
Life Application - I can learn that Jesus was born just as God planned.
Bible Truth - Jesus was born as God planned.

FAMILY PLUS Preschool - December 7

Hi Parents and Grandparents!

I have more Christmas traditions for you this week. I wish I would have done some of these things when my children were small. I will however start some with my grandchildren.
Here is a tradition that I know that children will remember forever. From my own experience its not the gifts that they will remember. They will remember the special time together as a family around the season.
Twenty five days before Christmas buy books, wrap them and put them under the tree. At bed time every night have your child open one book. Read the book to your preschooler at bed time.
This is a great idea. I know books could be costly. They do not have to be expensive books or you could have just a few books for every weekend til Christmas Eve. Here are a few of my favorite Christmas time books: The Crippled Lamb by Max Lucado, The Legend of the Three Trees by Catherine McCafferty, What God Wants for Christmas by Amy Bradford and my new favorite, Humprhrey's First Christmas by Carol Heyer. Every book does not have to be about Christmas.

This Sunday, December 9, 2012, your preschooler will hear this story -

Mary and Joseph Heard Good News Luke 1:26-56; Matthew 1:18-25
Bible Story Brief -
• Mary lived in the town of Nazareth. One day God sent the angel Gabriel to talk to Mary. “Mary,” Gabriel said, “God is pleased with you. He has chosen you.” Mary was afraid.
• “Do not be afraid, Mary,” the angel said. “You will give birth to a son and call Him Jesus. He will grow up to be great.” Mary still did not understand.
• Gabriel explained,“The baby will be God’s Son. Elizabeth, your relative, is going to have a baby, too, even though she is old. God can do things that people think are impossible to do!”
• Mary said,“I will do whatever God wants. ”Then the angel left her.
• Mary packed her things and hurried over the hills to visit Elizabeth. When Mary arrived, Elizabeth said, “Mary, your baby is God’s Son!” How happy Mary and Elizabeth were! Mary sang a song to thank God.
• Joseph also lived in Nazareth. Joseph was a kind man who obeyed God and didwhat was right. He was going to marry Mary.
• One night while Joseph was sleeping, God sent an angel to Joseph in a dream. The angel said, “Joseph, do not be afraid to marry Mary. She is going to have ababy. The baby is God’s Son. You will name Him Jesus. He will help all people.”
• When Joseph awoke, he did what God told him to do. Joseph and Mary weremarried. They became a family and waited for the day when Jesus would be born.

Bible Verse -
You will give birth to a son and call Him Jesus. Luke 1:31
Life Application - I can learn that God chose Mary and Joseph to be Baby Jesus’ family.
Bible Truth - God planned for Baby Jesus to have a family.

Your parent challenge this week - Make sure a family picture is on display somewhere in your home. Move it to a new location. Challenge your child to find the family picture. As you look at the picture together, identify each family member. Comment: “God planned for us to be a family. God planned for Jesus to have a family, too. Mary and Joseph were Jesus’ family.”

FAMILY PLUS Preschool - November 20

Hi Parents and Grandparents!

With Thanksgiving and Christmas upon us, I was thinking about traditions. I would love for you to send me stories on traditions you and your family have. It can be about Thanksgiving or Christmas. We had a tradition in my family on Christmas Eve when I was a child. My mother would buy all of us new pajamas. It was the one and only present we could open on Christmas Eve. I remember being very excited about opening the pajamas. We knew it was pajamas but didn't know what kind. Sometimes they were homemade and sometimes they were new. They always had a robe with them.Today I have this same tradition with my family. I hope my children treasure this tradition just like I do. I can't wait to hear your stories.

This Sunday, November 25, 2012, your preschooler will hear this story -

Hannah Prayed 1 Samuel 1:1-20

• Hannah prayed words like “God,You are so good. I am sad. Please give me a baby. I will bring him to church to learn about You, God.” Hannah was so sad that she cried as she prayed. She moved her lips as she prayed but did not say the words aloud.
• Eli, the priest, went to talk with Hannah. Hannah told Eli why she was crying and praying. She said she was praying for a baby. Eli told Hannah that God had heard her prayer.
• Hannah left the tabernacle and ate a meal. She did not feel sad anymore. The next morning, Hannah and Elkanah worshiped God together and returned home.

FAMILY PLUS Preschool - November 8

Hi Parents and Grandparents!

This week's story is about the greatest of all prophets, Elijah! He was another ordinary man that did extraordinary things with God. He was the greatest because the Bible talks about him coming to prepare God's people for the Lord's coming. Elijah believed in God and obeyed Him.

I get the opportunity to hear our preschoolers praying sweet prayers all the time. Praying for their needs, praying for things that they love, and praying for things that they are thankful for. Sometimes we get caught up praying for things we want and want a quick answer. I think we miss answers sometimes because it is not the answer we were looking for. Answers from God come in many ways, they are yes, no, or maybe later. No and later are the answers we sometimes get upset with, but Psalm 46:10 says "Be still and know that I am God." In this story Elijah prayed for rain and God sent it after seven times of praying for it.

Perfect timing for The Great I Am: A Worship Encounter with the God Who IS, November 17th and 18th.

This Sunday, November 11, 2012, your preschooler will hear this story -

Elijah Prayed to God 1 Kings 18:1-2,41-46; James 5:17-18
Bible Story Brief -
• It had not rained for three years. The plants could not grow. There was not enough food to eat. The people needed rain.
• God spoke to His prophet Elijah and said, “Go tell King Ahab I will send rain.” Elijah obeyed God.
• He went to King Ahab and said, “God says it will rain soon. Go; eat and drink before the heavy rain comes.” King Ahab listened to Elijah. He went to eat and drink.
• Elijah climbed to the top of Mount Carmel to pray. He bowed to the ground. Then Elijah told his servant,“Go and look toward the sea.”The servant went, looked, and came back. “I do not see anything,” he said.
• Seven times Elijah prayed and sent his servant to look toward the sea for a rain cloud. On the seventh time, the servant returned and said, “I see a cloud the size of a man’s hand.” Elijah said, “Go to King Ahab. Tell him to get his chariot ready and go to Jezreel before the rain begins.”
• Black clouds were in the sky.The wind began to blow. Drop, drop, drop. A heavy rain began to fall. Elijah ran to Jezreel ahead of King Ahab. God heard Elijah’s prayers. God sent the rain.

Bible Verse
- Ask God for what you need. Matthew 7:7
Life Application - I can ask God for help when I pray.
Bible Truth - People pray to God and ask for His help.

Your parent challenge this week - Watch this week for a teachable moment when you observe that your child or you need help. Pray with your child, asking God for help with the problem. Help your child understand that God always answers prayer. Some of the answers God gives us are Yes, No, or Later.

• When Jesus saw the crowd of people, He went up on a mountainside and sat down. His disciples came close to Him. Jesus began to teach them how to pray.
• Jesus said,“Some people pray in a loud voice so other people can hear them. They pray in places where other people can see them. When you pray, talk quietly to God, and He will hear your prayers. You do not need to use a lot of words to pray. God will hear you. He knows what you need.”
• Jesus continued, “When you pray, say words like these: ‘God, we love You. Help us do the things You want us to do. Give us the food we need. When other people hurt us, help us remember to love them just as You love us. Help us make right choices. We are sorry when we do not do what You want us to do.’”

• When Jesus came to the tree, He looked up and said, “Zacchaeus, come down from the tree. I’m going to your house today. ”The people who heard this did not think Jesus should be Zacchaeus’s friend. But Zacchaeus was glad Jesus was coming to his house.

FAMILY PLUS Preschool - October 11

Hi Preschool Parents and Grandparents!

This week's story has to be by far my favorite story in the Bible. Having a sister of my own, I can relate to this story. I can just see myself being Martha and my sister being Mary. I know I would have done the same thing, marched right up to Jesus and said what the heck is going on here? Why in the world are you allowing this to happen? Mary is just being lazy, make her do something.
I love how quickly He set Martha straight. This story is a great reminder of how important it is to take the time to listen to Jesus. My prayer for you this week is to be still so you and your preschooler can hear HIM!

This Sunday, October 14, 2012, your preschooler will hear this story -

• Mary sat down on the floor at Jesus’ feet and listened to every word that Jesus said.
• Martha worked to prepare the food, worrying that everything would not be just right. Mary was not helping prepare the meal.
• Martha was upset. “Jesus,” Martha said, “my sister has left me to do all the work. Tell her to help me.”
• Jesus said to her, “Martha, Martha, you are working hard and worrying about many things. Mary has chosen the better thing to do. She is showing that she loves Me by listening to Me.The most important thing is to love Me and learn about Me.”

Bible Verse - Jesus said, “Love one another.” John 15:17
Life Application - I can love my friends, just as Jesus did.

FAMILY PLUS Preschool - October 6

Hi Parents and Grandparents,

Hello from New Orleans! I am having a wonderful time serving next to our High School students. It is exhausting but I am loving it. FAMILY PLUS Preschool - September 28

Hi Parents and Grandparents,

This Saturday I have the opportunity to go serve on a mission trip with our High School Students in New Orleans. I will be working in one of six schools playing character building games with children. We will also have several teams serving in homes that was effected from the recent storm. I know one of the homeowners personally. Her name is Coach Patti. I spoke with her last week and told her that we had a team coming to help. Patti cried our entire conversation. She lost her home in Katrina and again with Isaac. She is very emotional and very grateful that we are coming to help. Her brother lives next door to her and he lost his house as well. Please pray for Coach Patti, her family and the mission team that will be traveling to Louisiana on Saturday, September 29th. We will be going and spreading good news to what seems like a broken city, New Orleans.

Hi Parents and Grandparents,

Last week our parent challenge was to make cookies and shape them into the letter J for Jesus. Sunday, a preschooler ran up to me with a smile on his face and a bag of cookies. Cookies shaped like the letter J. He was very excited to tell me about him and his grandmother making them. They were both very happy to share them with me. What a beautiful memory of the two of them have now with making cookies and talking about Jesus. I saw him Wednesday night, he was still talking about making me those cookies. I want to challenge you to do these parent challenges. I know it can be difficult at times with our lives being so busy. You will not be disappointed that you took the time to do so. Memories last a life time. It is the little things that they will remember the most.

FAMILY PLUS Preschool - August 10

Hi Parents and Grandparents,

The lesson this week reminds us to be kind to others. Luke 6:27 says, "Love other people and be kind." Put this into practice this week by finding opportunities for your preschooler to be kind to others. Small random acts of kindness will go a long way, not just to your preschooler but for the person that gets to receive your kindness. The world is a better place through our kindness.  It is truly a win-win situation. Kindness is contagious!

This Sunday, August 12, 2012, your preschooler will hear this story -

• The hurt man heard someone walking down the road. A priest (church helper) came along. He saw the hurt man, but he walked to the other side of the road and did not stop to help. A Levite (church leader) came walking down the road. He saw the hurt man, but he did not stop to help either.
• The hurt man heard a man and his donkey coming down the road. They were from Samaria. The Samaritan saw the hurt man beside the road. He knelt down, poured olive oil on the man’s wounds, and bandaged them. Then he lifted the hurt man onto his donkey, took him to an inn, and cared for him all night.
• The next morning, the kind Samaritan gave the owner of the inn two silver coins. “Take care of this man,” he said. “When I come back, I will pay you more money.”

“Paul and Silas Told About Jesus” Acts 16:22-32,34
Bible story brief -

• Suddenly, at midnight, while Paul and Silas were praying and singing, there was an earthquake. The ground shook so hard that the prison doors opened and the prisoners’ chains came loose.
• The earthquake woke the jailer. When he saw the prison doors wide open, he thought the prisoners had left. The jailer knew he would be punished if the prisoners were gone. He was scared. Then the jailer heard Paul call out in a loud voice, “We are all still here! Do not be afraid!”
• The jailer rushed in to see Paul and Silas. He asked them to tell him about Jesus. They told him and any prisoner that could hear about Jesus. The jailer took Paul and Silas to his home. Paul and Silas told everyone in the jailer’s house about Jesus. The jailer and everyone in his house listened to what Paul and Silas said about Jesus.
Bible Verse - Go and tell others about Jesus. Mark 16:15
Life Application - I can tell people about Jesus.
Bible Truth - We can tell people about Jesus.
Your parent challenge this week - Talk with your child about what we can tell others about Jesus. (He is God’s Son; Jesus helped people; Jesus healed people; Jesus loves all people; Jesus loves children.) Guide your child to choose two facts to tell about Jesus. Lead him to tell these facts to a baby sister, grandparent, friend, or Sunday School teacher. Say: “You can tell others about Jesus!”

FAMILY PLUS Preschool - July 13

Hi Parents and Grandparents,

We had a wonderful week at Preschool Day Camp. Each day was filled
with Bible Stories, Worship, crafts, and fun themes. We had an average
of 118 preschoolers and leaders every day. We were able to make new
friends and build relationships in and around the community. Fun was
had by all. I heard lots of giggles and saw lots of smiles. I even
heard several children cry only because it was time to go home.

This Sunday, July 15, 2012, your preschooler will hear this story -

“A Church Helped”  Acts 11:27-30
Bible story brief -
• Some prophets left the church in Jerusalem and came to the church in
Antioch. A prophet is a person who speaks for God and tells other
people what God wants them to know. One of the prophets was Agabus.
• Agabus talked to the people in the church at Antioch. He told them
that God wanted them to know that there would be a famine in
Jerusalem. The people in Antioch knew that many people in Jerusalem
loved Jesus. They were sad that the people in Jerusalem would not have
enough food.
• The people in Antioch wanted to help the people in Jerusalem. They
worked together to plan how they could help during the famine.
• The people of the Antioch church brought offerings for the people in
Jerusalem. Each person brought as much as he could bring. People who
were poor brought small offerings of food and money. People who were
rich brought large offerings. The people in Antioch knew their
offerings would help the hungry people in Jerusalem.
• The people gave their offerings to their teachers, Barnabas and
Saul. Barnabas and Saul took the many offerings to the people in the
church in Jerusalem.

Bible Verse - All the people helped. Acts 11:29
Life Application - I can give to help people.
Bible Truth - We can give to help people.

Your parent challenge this week - Review the Bible story on the way
home from church. Talk as a family about ways your church helps other
people. Help your child decorate an empty plastic container. Cut a
slit in the lid. Collect leftover change for the rest of the month.
Convert the change to bills and place them in an offering envelope.
Lead your child to place the offering in the offering plate at church.
