FAMILY PLUS Preschool - November 20

Hi Parents and Grandparents!

With Thanksgiving and Christmas upon us, I was thinking about traditions. I would love for you to send me stories on traditions you and your family have. It can be about Thanksgiving or Christmas. We had a tradition in my family on Christmas Eve when I was a child. My mother would buy all of us new pajamas. It was the one and only present we could open on Christmas Eve. I remember being very excited about opening the pajamas. We knew it was pajamas but didn't know what kind. Sometimes they were homemade and sometimes they were new. They always had a robe with them.Today I have this same tradition with my family. I hope my children treasure this tradition just like I do. I can't wait to hear your stories.

This Sunday, November 25, 2012, your preschooler will hear this story -

Hannah Prayed 1 Samuel 1:1-20
Bible Story Brief -
• Hannah was very sad. She and her husband, Elkanah (el KAY nuh), did not have any children.
• Every year, Elkanah and Hannah traveled to Shiloh to the tabernacle (tent church) to worship God. One year in Shiloh, Hannah went inside the tabernacle to pray. She knew that God would listen to her prayer.
• Hannah prayed words like “God,You are so good. I am sad. Please give me a baby. I will bring him to church to learn about You, God.” Hannah was so sad that she cried as she prayed. She moved her lips as she prayed but did not say the words aloud.
• Eli, the priest, went to talk with Hannah. Hannah told Eli why she was crying and praying. She said she was praying for a baby. Eli told Hannah that God had heard her prayer.
• Hannah left the tabernacle and ate a meal. She did not feel sad anymore. The next morning, Hannah and Elkanah worshiped God together and returned home.
• Hannah waited. One day she knew she was going to have a baby. After a while, she had a son. She named her son Samuel. Hannah knew that God had heard her when she prayed to Him.

David gathered all the people including the Levites, whom God had chosen to carry the ark of the covenant.

FAMILY PLUS Preschool - November 8

Hi Parents and Grandparents!

This week's story is about the greatest of all prophets, Elijah! He was another ordinary man that did extraordinary things with God. He was the greatest because the Bible talks about him coming to prepare God's people for the Lord's coming. Elijah believed in God and obeyed Him.

I get the opportunity to hear our preschoolers praying sweet prayers all the time. Praying for their needs, praying for things that they love, and praying for things that they are thankful for. Sometimes we get caught up praying for things we want and want a quick answer. I think we miss answers sometimes because it is not the answer we were looking for. Answers from God come in many ways, they are yes, no, or maybe later. No and later are the answers we sometimes get upset with, but Psalm 46:10 says "Be still and know that I am God." In this story Elijah prayed for rain and God sent it after seven times of praying for it.

Perfect timing for The Great I Am: A Worship Encounter with the God Who IS, November 17th and 18th.

This Sunday, November 11, 2012, your preschooler will hear this story -

Elijah Prayed to God 1 Kings 18:1-2,41-46; James 5:17-18
Bible Story Brief -
• It had not rained for three years. The plants could not grow. There was not enough food to eat. The people needed rain.
• God spoke to His prophet Elijah and said, “Go tell King Ahab I will send rain.” Elijah obeyed God.
• He went to King Ahab and said, “God says it will rain soon. Go; eat and drink before the heavy rain comes.” King Ahab listened to Elijah. He went to eat and drink.
• Elijah climbed to the top of Mount Carmel to pray. He bowed to the ground. Then Elijah told his servant,“Go and look toward the sea.”The servant went, looked, and came back. “I do not see anything,” he said.
• Seven times Elijah prayed and sent his servant to look toward the sea for a rain cloud. On the seventh time, the servant returned and said, “I see a cloud the size of a man’s hand.” Elijah said, “Go to King Ahab. Tell him to get his chariot ready and go to Jezreel before the rain begins.”
• Black clouds were in the sky.The wind began to blow. Drop, drop, drop. A heavy rain began to fall. Elijah ran to Jezreel ahead of King Ahab. God heard Elijah’s prayers. God sent the rain.

Bible Verse
- Ask God for what you need. Matthew 7:7
Life Application - I can ask God for help when I pray.
Bible Truth - People pray to God and ask for His help.

Your parent challenge this week - Watch this week for a teachable moment when you observe that your child or you need help. Pray with your child, asking God for help with the problem. Help your child understand that God always answers prayer. Some of the answers God gives us are Yes, No, or Later.

Jesus Taught About Prayer Matthew 4:23-25; 5:1-2; 6:5-13
Bible Story Brief -
• Jesus traveled around Galilee, teaching and preaching about God, making sick people well, and helping all the people who came to Him. Many people came to see Jesus.
• When Jesus saw the crowd of people, He went up on a mountainside and sat down. His disciples came close to Him. Jesus began to teach them how to pray.
• Jesus said,“Some people pray in a loud voice so other people can hear them. They pray in places where other people can see them. When you pray, talk quietly to God, and He will hear your prayers. You do not need to use a lot of words to pray. God will hear you. He knows what you need.”
• Jesus continued, “When you pray, say words like these: ‘God, we love You. Help us do the things You want us to do. Give us the food we need. When other people hurt us, help us remember to love them just as You love us. Help us make right choices. We are sorry when we do not do what You want us to do.’”
