FAMILY PLUS Preschool - January 26

Hi Parents and Grandparents,

Just imagine being 100 years old and God tells you that you were going to have a son. I think I would do exactly what Abraham did.....Laugh. But like Abraham, I would know that God had a much greater plan than mine. This weeks lessons teaches us all that families are important and God has a plan for each of us.

Try this with your preschooler sometime this week - Provide crayons or markers and paper. Lead your child to draw your family. Offer to print each family member’s name by his/her picture. Use conversation to help your child know God planned for him/her to live in a family. I kept the pictures like these when my children were small. Today these family pictures are a cherished treasure of mine.
This Sunday, January 29, 2012 your preschooler will hear this story -

A Baby for Abraham and Sarah (Genesis 12:2-3; 17:1-8,15-17,19,21; 21:1-8 )

Bible Story Brief -
•  Abram did what God told him to do. When Abram was 99 years old, God spoke to him. God changed Abram’s name. God said, “Your name will no longer be Abram. Your new name will be Abraham because you will be the father of many nations.” This meant Abraham would have many, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. People everywhere would know that Abraham’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren were part of his family.
•  God made a promise to Abram. God told Abraham that a year later his wife Sarah would have a son. Abraham laughed at the idea that Sarah would have a son when she was 90 and he was 100 years old! But he knew that God kept His promises. God told Abraham to name their son Isaac. The name Isaac means “laughter.”
•  A year later, Sarah had a baby boy, just as God had said she would. Abraham and Sarah named their son Isaac as God had told them to do. Abraham had a party to celebrate the birth of Isaac. God had kept His promise to Abraham.
•  God did what He had promised to do. God blessed Abraham and Sarah with the special gift of a baby. The baby made them very happy.

Bible Truth - God planned for families to care for us.
LIfe ApplIcatIon - I can learn God planned for families.
Bible Verse - God has plans to care for you. Jeremiah 29:11

FAMILY PLUS Preschool - January 19

Hi Parents and Grandparents,

This week help your child understand that God is always with him/her. When you pull into the grocery store parking lot, ask: “We are at the grocery store. Is God with us?” (yes) When you are dropping your child off at school, say: “You are going into school. Is God with you?” (yes) Continue with other destinations this week as you work together to understand God is always with us.

This Sunday, January 22, 2012 your preschooler will hear this story -

God loved Jacob (Genesis 28:10-22)
Bible Story Brief -
•  Jacob was traveling from his home to Haran. It began to get dark. Jacob found a place to stop and rest for the night. He found a smooth stone and placed it under his head for a pillow.
•  As Jacob slept, he had a dream. In his dream, Jacob saw a stairway. The stairway reached from the earth up into heaven. Jacob saw angels going up and down the stairway. Jacob heard God speak to him.
•  God said, “I am God. I will give you this land where you are lying. You and your children will have this land.” God made a promise to Jacob. God said, “I will be with you wherever you go. I will not leave you. I will always be with you and will help you.”
•  Jacob woke up. He felt afraid. He wondered what his dream meant. He thought about his dream. He knew that God would be with him and help him. He knew that God would help him have food to eat and clothes to wear. Jacob wanted God to know how thankful he was for the promise. Jacob took the stone that he had used for a pillow and set it in a special place. The stone would help Jacob remember where God had talked to him. Jacob said, “God, do what You have promised to do.”

Bible Truth - God is always with me.
Life Application - I can learn God is always with me.
Bible Verse - I am with you wherever you go. Genesis 28:15

FAMILY PLUS Preschool - January 13

Hi Parents and Grandparents,
This week, focus on God’s love in your life and the life of your child. Use the following Bible phrases this week to reinforce the time in his/her classroom at church:
God cares for you. 1 Peter 5:7
God knows what you need. Matthew 6:8
God will help me. Psalm 121:2
I am with you everywhere you go. Genesis 28:15
 God loves us. Psalm 107:1
Here is another idea to reinforce the Bible lesson this week: Gather a few markers or crayons and paper. Lead your child to give you a list of ways God cares for her/him. Print the list and invite your child to add drawings of some of the items on the list. Post it on the refrigerator. Consider printing the Bible verse at the bottom of the list. Point to each word and read the verse with your child until he can say it by himself.

This Sunday, January 15, 2012 your preschooler will hear this story -
God cared for Elijah (1 Kings 17:1-16)
Bible story brief -
•  Elijah (ih LIGH juh) was a prophet. Elijah loved God. He listened to God and told people what God said. Elijah told the king, “No rain will fall.”
•  God told Elijah to go live by a river and the ravens would bring him food. Soon the river dried up because there was no rain. God told Elijah to go to the town of Zarephath (ZAR ih fath). He told Elijah a woman there would give him food and water.
•  When Elijah got to Zarephath, he met a woman gathering sticks. Elijah asked, “Would you get me some water to drink?” As she was going to get the water, Elijah said, “And please bring me some bread.”
•  The woman answered, “I have no bread. I have only enough oil and flour to make a small loaf of bread for my son and me. After that, we will have no other food.”
•  Elijah told her not to be afraid. He told her to go and make bread for him and herself and her son. He said, “God will keep giving you oil and flour to make more bread until He sends rain. “
•  The woman did as Elijah told her. Each time she made bread, she had enough flour and oil. God made sure the oil and flour did not run out. God cared for the woman and her son, and He cared for Elijah.

Bible Truth - God gives us what we need.
Life Application - I can know God gives me what I need.
Bible Verse - God cares for you. 1 Peter 5:7

FAMILY PLUS Preschool - January 6

Hi Parents and Grandparents,
The Family Plus Family Night was a huge success. Thank you for coming out and being a part of that success. If you were not able to be here I would be glad to catch you up to speed. Just give me a shout.
This week talk with your child about the difference between needs and wants. Needs are things we need for staying alive. Play a game. Say: “Food.” Guide your child to respond with: “Need!” Continue with other examples. You may find your child will want to play this game several times during the week. Switch places with your child calling out an item and you responding with “Want” or “Need.”

This Sunday, January 8, 2012 your preschooler will hear this story -

Jesus told about God’s love (Matthew 5:1-2; 6:25-34)
 Bible Story Brief -
•  Jesus was sitting on the side of a mountain. His disciples were close by. Many people were crowded around Him. Jesus was teaching.
•  He said, “You should not worry about what you will eat or drink. Do not worry about clothes to wear. God cares for you. He will help you have what you need.”
•  “Think about the birds,” Jesus continued. “They need food. God takes care of them. He gives them the food they need. God loves you more than birds.”
•  Jesus taught more about God’s care. “Think about the flowers. God takes care of the flowers. He gives the flowers what they need. God
will make sure you have what you need, too. He will help you have clothes to wear.”
•  Jesus told His disciples, “Do not worry about food or clothes. God knows what you need. Do the things God wants you to do. He will take care of you.” Jesus continued to teach about God. He wanted the people to learn what God wanted them to do and that God cared for them. God takes care of all people.

Bible Truth - God knows what we need.
Life Application -  I can learn God knows what I need.
Bible Verse - God knows what you need. Matthew 6:8
