FAMILY PLUS Preschool - October 25

Hi Parents and Grandparents,

This is our activity & assignment for Wednesday night, Oct. 31. We are taking this opportunity to send our church into the community!

As You Go & As They Come

On Wednesday, Oct. 31, people will turn on their porch lights and welcome total strangers to their homes. It's called Halloween (Trick or Treat). We are taking this opportunity to send our church into the community!  Join us in accepting this open invitation by inviting the people you encounter that night to “The Great I AM: A Worship Encounter with the God who IS!" (Nov. 17-18, 2012).
You can do this in one of two ways:
  • As You Go” from house to house, leave an invitation, or
  • As They Come” to your house, drop an invitation in their sack along with your treat.

Invitation cards are available at the church office or in the foyer on Sunday morning or Wednesday evening (in front of Thrive Books and Media).
We will have no other church activities on Wednesday night, Oct. 31, 2012.

This Sunday, October 28, 2012, your preschooler will hear this story -

Jesus Washed his Disciples’ Fee
t John 13:1-17
Bible Story Brief -
• Jesus loved His disciples very much. He wanted to show them how much He loved them.
• One night, Jesus and His disciples ate a meal together. After the meal, Jesus stood and took off His coat. He wrapped a towel around His waist. He held a basin, which was like a large bowl, and poured water in it. He took the basin, knelt down, and washed the feet of a disciple. He dried the feet with the towel that was wrapped around His waist. One by one, Jesus washed and dried His disciples’ feet.
• When Jesus came to Peter, Peter stopped Him and asked, “Are You going to wash my feet, too?”
• Jesus answered, “Yes, Peter. I am going to wash your feet.” • “No,” said Peter. “You should not be washing my feet.” • Jesus explained that He wanted to wash the feet of each of His disciples.
Peter said,“Please wash my feet.” • When Jesus finished washing the feet of all the disciples, He asked them,
“Do you understand why I washed your feet? I am your Teacher, and I have been kind to you by washing your feet. I want you to follow My example and do kind things for people, also. You should do as I have done for you.”

Bible Verse -
Jesus said,“Help others like I have helped you.” John 13:15
Life Application - I can help others, just as Jesus did.
Bible Truth - Jesus helped others, and I can, too.

Your parent challenge this week - Each day this week, plan an activity for your child to do that helps someone. Ideas might include sorting his laundry, helping set the table, opening the door for someone at church, picking up something that has been dropped, and spending time with a younger sibling.

Hi Parents and Grandparents,

Our Pastor for Vision and Purpose, Craig Webb will be teaching this Sunday from Matthew 5:17-42. It does come with a warning of PG-13.
In part of this message he will be discussing mature issues related to what Jesus says about adultery and lust. If you are uncomfortable with your young children hearing about these mature subjects please be sure they are in KidStuff Worship, Wee Worship or Extended Care.

This Sunday, October 21, 2012, your preschooler will hear this story -
Jesus Showed Love to Zacchaeus Luke 19:1-10
Bible Story Brief -
• Zacchaeus was a tax collector in Jericho. His job was to collect tax money that people owed to the town. The people did not like Zacchaeus.
• One day the people in Jericho were very excited.“Jesus is coming! Jesus is coming!” they said. They crowded around Jesus as He walked through town. Zacchaeus wanted to see who Jesus was, but he was too short to see over the crowd. Quickly, he climbed a sycamore tree so he could see.
• When Jesus came to the tree, He looked up and said, “Zacchaeus, come down from the tree. I’m going to your house today. ”The people who heard this did not think Jesus should be Zacchaeus’s friend. But Zacchaeus was glad Jesus was coming to his house.
• Jesus talked to Zacchaeus. Zacchaeus was sorry for the wrong things he had done. He said, “I will give half of all my things to the poor. If I have taken too much tax money from people, I will give back four times as much.”
• Jesus said to Zacchaeus, “Today is a happy day at your house. You have learned that God loves you and wants you to do the right things.”

Bible Verse - Jesus said, “Love one another as I have loved you.” John 13:34
Life Application - I can show love to everyone, just as Jesus did.
Bible Truth - Jesus loves all people, and I can, too.

Your parent challenge this week - If possible, find a tree with low branches. Gather a blanket and your Bible and take your child to look at and explore the tree. Offer to help your child climb on the lowest branch. If your child does not want to climb, sit together on the blanket, and tell the Bible story from Luke 19.

FAMILY PLUS Preschool - October 11

Hi Preschool Parents and Grandparents!

This week's story has to be by far my favorite story in the Bible. Having a sister of my own, I can relate to this story. I can just see myself being Martha and my sister being Mary. I know I would have done the same thing, marched right up to Jesus and said what the heck is going on here? Why in the world are you allowing this to happen? Mary is just being lazy, make her do something.
I love how quickly He set Martha straight. This story is a great reminder of how important it is to take the time to listen to Jesus. My prayer for you this week is to be still so you and your preschooler can hear HIM!

This Sunday, October 14, 2012, your preschooler will hear this story -
Jesus Loved Mary and Martha Luke 10:38-42

Bible Story Brief -
• Jesus and His disciples walked to Bethany, where Jesus’ friends Mary and Martha lived. They were sisters.
• Martha invited them into her home and rushed to prepare a meal. She wanted the meal to be very special for Jesus and His disciples.
• Mary sat down on the floor at Jesus’ feet and listened to every word that Jesus said.
• Martha worked to prepare the food, worrying that everything would not be just right. Mary was not helping prepare the meal.
• Martha was upset. “Jesus,” Martha said, “my sister has left me to do all the work. Tell her to help me.”
• Jesus said to her, “Martha, Martha, you are working hard and worrying about many things. Mary has chosen the better thing to do. She is showing that she loves Me by listening to Me.The most important thing is to love Me and learn about Me.”

Bible Verse - Jesus said, “Love one another.” John 15:17
Life Application - I can love my friends, just as Jesus did.
Bible Truth - Jesus loved His friends, and I can, too.

Your parent challenge this week -  Look for opportunities to live the verse with your child and your family this week. Look it up together several times and talk about ways you can show love to your friends.

FAMILY PLUS Preschool - October 6

Hi Parents and Grandparents,

Hello from New Orleans! I am having a wonderful time serving next to our High School students. It is exhausting but I am loving it. We have some great teenagers that love to serve and they definitely love the Lord. However, I can't wait to be back and be your preschoolers this Sunday. Pray for a safe trip home. We will be headed back October 6th.

This Sunday, October 7, 2012, your preschooler will hear this story -

Jesus’ Family Went to church
 Luke 2:40-52

Bible Story Brief -
• The boy Jesus lived in Nazareth with Mary and Joseph. He grew tall and strong and learned many things.
• When Jesus was 12 years old, He was old enough to go with Mary and Joseph to Jerusalem for the Passover celebration at the temple. At Passover, the Israelit es remembered how God had helped them leave Egypt.
• Jesus, Mary, and Joseph traveled with other families to Jerusalem. They went to the temple and celebrated with the other people.
• When the feast was over, Mary and Joseph began the trip back to Nazareth. After traveling for a day, they looked for Jesus. They could not find Jesus walking with His friends or other family members.
• Mary and Joseph went back to Jerusalem to look for Jesus. They found Him sitting in the temple with the teachers, listening to them talk about God. He asked questions. The teachers were surprised at how much Jesus knew about God and the Bible.
• Mary said to Jesus, “We have been looking everywhere for You.”
• Jesus said, “Why were you looking for Me? Didn’t you know I would be in the temple?” Jesus returned to Nazareth with Mary and Joseph.

Bible Verse - I was glad when they said,“Let us go to church.” Psalm 122:1

Your parent challenge this week - At bedtime on Sunday night, ask: “Where did we go this morning?” (church) Find Psalm 122:1 in your Bible and read it with your child. Talk about the Bible story from Luke 2:40-52.
