FAMILY PLUS Preschool - August 31

Hi Parents and Grandparents,

With Labor Day right around the corner, I was wondering if you and your family have any traditions? When I was a child, it always meant a cookout and one last day to spend in the sun with family. I still cherish those memories today! I would love to hear your stories, take time to write them down and send those to me. I would love to know what traditions you and your preschooler have!

This Sunday, September 2, 2012, your preschooler will hear this story -

People Found a Lost Bible Scroll 2 Kings 22:1-20; 23:1-3
Bible Story Brief -
• Josiah was 8 years old when he became king. He loved God.
• The kings who lived before Josiah did not love God. They had let the temple become dirty, and it needed repairs. When he became a man, King Josiah sent his helper Shaphan (SHAY fan) with a message for the priest, Hilkiah (hil KIGH uh): “People brought money to the temple. Give it to builders and carpenters who can clean and repair the temple.”
• In the temple, Hilkiah, the priest, found a Bible scroll that had been lost for a long time. He gave it to Shaphan, who took the scroll to King Josiah. Shaphan read some of the Bible scroll to the king.
• When King Josiah heard the words from the Bible scroll, he was sad and upset. “We have not been doing these things,” Josiah said. “We have not been obeying God.”
• Josiah gathered the people at the temple and read the scroll to them. He said, “I will do what the words of the Bible scroll say to do. I will obey God.” All of the people promised they would obey God, too.

Bible Verse -  All that the Bible says is from God. 2 Timothy 3:16
Life Application - I can learn that the Bible is an important book because it is from God.
Bible Truth - The Bible is an important and true book.

Your parent challenge this week - Take sheets of paper and make scrolls with your child. Invite your child to hide the scrolls in a room in your home. After you find the scrolls, open your Bible to 2 Kings and retell the Bible story.

FAMILY PLUS Preschool - August 24

Hi Parents and Grandparents,

I hope that you got to spend some time with your family at the fair this past week. I had a wonderful time at Go Worship! I was very happy to see everyone.

I hope everyone is enjoying their new classes on Sunday mornings. I love seeing them in their new rooms and making new friends in Christ. I want to tell you about our Wednesday night classes that we offer for your preschooler. We just started a five week series called "Big". It is about how we should love, listen, help, thank, and share BIG. In BIG, your preschooler will learn that even though they are small, they can do big things with God's help! In fact, they can do all things through Christ, because He gives them strength. I hope to see your preschooler next Wednesday.

This Sunday, August 26, 2012, your preschooler will hear this story -

Jesus Taught Us to Remember Him (Matthew 26:17-30; 1 Corinthians 11:23-26)
Bible Story Brief -
• Jesus wanted His disciples to remember Him. He planned to eat a special meal with His disciples and tell them special things to do that would help them remember Him.
• Jesus’ disciples came to Him and asked, “Where are we going to eat our special Passover meal?”
• Jesus answered, “Go into the city. You will find a man. Say to him, ‘Jesus will eat the Passover meal at your house with His disciples.’”
• The disciples did what Jesus said and found the man. They prepared the Passover meal, making sure everything was ready.
• Jesus and His disciples stretched out on the floor around a low table. Jesus took the bread and thanked God. He tore the bread into pieces and gave some to each disciple. Jesus said, “Take this bread and eat it. Eat this bread and remember Me.” Jesus took a cup and thanked God. Jesus passed the cup to the disciples and said, “Drink from this cup; I want you to remember what I have done. Remember Me when I am not with you. Remember Me every time you eat a meal like this. Remember how much I love you. Remember Me.”
• Jesus and His disciples ate the Passover meal together. After the meal, they sang songs together. They left the room together, going out to a place to pray.

Bible Verse - Jesus said,“Remember Me.” 1 Corinthians 11:24
Life Application - I can remember things Jesus did.
Bible Truth - Jesus taught that we should remember what He did.

Your parent challenge this week - Look at the weekly take home sheets for this past month. Talk about each story. Make a list with your child of things we can remember about Jesus. (He taught His disciples; He taught about being kind; He healed and helped people; He loves all people; Children are important to Him; He wants us to remember Him.)

FAMILY PLUS Preschool - August 17

Hi Parents and Grandparents,

I love this time of year. What I love most is the cooler weather. I know it's short lived but I do try to live in the moment,, and the moment is cooler weather. Also, what I love about this time of year is the Wilson County Fair. My family is planning to attend next Sunday, August 19th at our Go Worship event. I hope your family plans to attend as well. If you would like more information on this event click here. I hope to see you there. I will have on my blue Go Worship shirt.

Jesus Taught About Love (Mark 10:13-16)
Bible Story Brief -
• Jesus was a busy teacher. He taught people about God. Everywhere Jesus went, people followed Him.
• One day some parents brought their children to see Jesus. The mothers and fathers wanted their children to see Jesus and hear His kind words. Many other people came to see Jesus that day, too.
• The disciples saw the mothers, fathers, and children trying to get close to Jesus. The disciples stopped the parents and told them to take their children and go home.
• Jesus saw His disciples sending the children and parents away. He was sad and angry. Jesus said, “Let the children come to Me. Do not keep them away. God loves children. They are part of God’s special plan. Everyone should love God like these children love Him. Children are important to God.”
• Then Jesus took the children in His arms. He touched the children gently and said special things to each child. Jesus told the children how much God loved them.
Bible Verse - Jesus said, “Let the children come to Me.” Mark 10:14
Life Application - I am important to Jesus.
Bible Truth - Children are important to Jesus.

Your parent challenge this week - Write on a paper plate "Jesus loves me". Have your preschooler draw a picture of themselves on the plate. Have fun decorating it. While you are decorating the plate, talk with your child about what Jesus did to show that He loves us. Ask your child questions for example, "What are ways that we can show Jesus we love Him?" (talking to Him and telling Him we love Him, obeying Him and our parents, being nice to everyone - doing things that Jesus would do.)

FAMILY PLUS Preschool - August 10

Hi Parents and Grandparents,

The lesson this week reminds us to be kind to others. Luke 6:27 says, "Love other people and be kind." Put this into practice this week by finding opportunities for your preschooler to be kind to others. Small random acts of kindness will go a long way, not just to your preschooler but for the person that gets to receive your kindness. The world is a better place through our kindness.  It is truly a win-win situation. Kindness is contagious!

This Sunday, August 12, 2012, your preschooler will hear this story -

“Jesus Taught About Love”  Mark 10:13-16
Bible Story Brief -
• Jesus and a man were talking about God’s law. The law said to love God and love your neighbor. The man asked Jesus, “Who is my neighbor?” Jesus told a parable (story) to answer the question.
• A man was walking from Jerusalem to Jericho. Some robbers stopped him. They took his clothes, beat him, and left him lying beside the road.
• The hurt man heard someone walking down the road. A priest (church helper) came along. He saw the hurt man, but he walked to the other side of the road and did not stop to help. A Levite (church leader) came walking down the road. He saw the hurt man, but he did not stop to help either.
• The hurt man heard a man and his donkey coming down the road. They were from Samaria. The Samaritan saw the hurt man beside the road. He knelt down, poured olive oil on the man’s wounds, and bandaged them. Then he lifted the hurt man onto his donkey, took him to an inn, and cared for him all night.
• The next morning, the kind Samaritan gave the owner of the inn two silver coins. “Take care of this man,” he said. “When I come back, I will pay you more money.”
• After the story, Jesus asked, “Which of the three men treated the hurt man like a neighbor?” He answered, “The man who was kind.”
• Jesus said,“Go and do the same.”

Bible Verse - Love other people and be kind. Luke 6:27
Life Application - I can learn Jesus taught about being kind.
Bible Truth - Jesus taught about being kind.

Your parent challenge this week - Sing songs about Jesus and His love for children. Consider songs such as “Jesus Loves Me” and “Jesus Loves the Little Children.” You may want to use your iPod or other music source for accompaniment. Ask your child: “Who is important to Jesus?” (You are!)

FAMILY PLUS Preschool - August 3

Hi Parents and Grandparents,

We had a great turn out at the Taste and See event Wednesday night. I hope you enjoyed it as much as we enjoyed the Back to School Bash. We had a blast with face painting, the Balloon Kid, bouncy houses, climbing wall, and their favorite bungee trampoline. We had 79 preschoolers. That is a lot of hot dogs. We saw lots of smiles and heard lots of giggles. It was a great way to start off our new school year.

I want to remind you that this Sunday is promotion day. You should have received a postcard letting you know your child's room number for this year. If you have not received it we will be available to help you find their class on Sunday.

This Sunday, August 5, 2012, your preschooler will hear this story -
“Jesus Chose Helpers and Taught Them” Matthew 4:18-22; 9:35–10:10
Bible Story Brief -
• One day Jesus walked beside a big lake called the Sea of Galilee. He saw two brothers, Simon Peter and Andrew, fishing.
• “Come, follow Me,” Jesus said. “I want you to be My disciples.” Simon Peter and Andrew immediately stopped fishing and went with Jesus. Jesus saw two different brothers, James and John, working in their father’s boat. Jesus said, “Come, follow Me.” James and John stopped working and went with Jesus. Simon Peter, Andrew, James, and John became Jesus’ first disciples. They went with Jesus to help Him.
• Jesus traveled to all the towns and villages. He taught in the synagogues and preached the good news. Jesus healed people everywhere that He went. Great crowds followed Him and the disciples.
• Jesus chose twelve men to be His disciples—Simon Peter, Andrew, James, John, Philip, Bartholomew, Thomas, Matthew, another James, Thaddaeus, Simon, and Judas. He told them to go make new disciples. He told them to heal people and tell everyone about God. They were not to take traveling bags. The people along the way would provide for them.

Bible Verse - Jesus said, “Go! I am sending you.” Luke 10:3
Life Application - Jesus said, “Go! I am sending you.” Luke 10:3
Bible Truth - Jesus taught His disciples to tell about God.

Your parent challenge this week - Look for times this week when your child sees someone being a helper. Comment: “That person is being a helper. Your Bible story this week talks about Jesus choosing helpers.” Review the Bible story. Show your child where Luke is located in the Bible.
