FAMILY PLUS Preschool - February 27

Hi Parents and Grandparents,

This Sunday, we will be learning that people at church teach others about Jesus. Your parent challenge is a simple one this week -  As you walk your preschoolers to class on Sunday, point to rooms including the Worship Center along the way. Ask: “Do you think people will learn about God and Jesus in this room today?” Repeat with several rooms to help your child understand that people at church learn about God and Jesus. Also review the Bible story and Bible verse this week with them. Have them recite the verse and have them tell the story back to you in their words.

This Sunday, February 26, 2012 Your preschooler will hear this story -

Apollos Learned about Jesus (Acts 18:1-4,11,18-19,24-28)
Bible story brief -
•  Paul was a missionary. He traveled to different cities and told people about Jesus. When Paul was in the city of Corinth, he met Aquila (AK wih luh) and his wife, Priscilla. Paul told Aquila and Priscilla about Jesus. They listened and believed what Paul told them about Jesus. Aquila and Priscilla invited Paul to come to their house.
•  Aquila and Priscilla were tent makers. They sewed goat hair together to make tents. Paul knew how to make tents, too. He stayed with this family and helped them make tents. Every Sabbath Day, Paul preached in the synagogue and told people about Jesus. Then he would go home with his friends and help them make tents. Paul told them many things about Jesus as they worked together.
•  After a year and a half, Paul left Corinth. Aquila and Priscilla went with him. They sailed to Ephesus (EF uh suhs). Aquila and Priscilla stayed in Ephesus when Paul went to other towns to tell people about Jesus.
•  One day, a man named Apollos (uh PAHL uhs) came to Ephesus. Apollos knew what John the Baptist told about Jesus. Aquila and Priscilla listened to Apollos preach in the synagogue. They invited Apollos to their home. They taught Apollos all that Paul taught them about Jesus. Apollos listened and believed their teachings about Jesus.

Bible Verse -
People at church taught and told others about Jesus. Acts 5:42

FAMILY PLUS Preschool - February 16

Hi Parents and Grandparents,

We will talk about helping others at church and away from church this Sunday. Your parent challenge will be to take a few minutes to review the church bulletin from Sunday. Find examples of events that show people at our church helping each other and helping others. Talk about several of these events with your child. For example - the mission trips to New Orleans and Rogersville that will be coming up next month. Help them understand that these trips help children too. This will be a good time to talk about the homes our church built from the ground up for needy families. You can also talk with them about our church building ramps for people that are handicapped, painting and helping landscape a local school, supplying food boxes to people without food,
You could also review the Bible verse and Bible story while driving in the car this week. By the end of the week, you should be able to start the verse or Bible story and your child should be able to finish it.

This Sunday,  February 19, 2012, your preschooler will hear a story about -

The Church Chose Helpers (Acts 6:1-7)
Bible Story Brief -
•  More and more people were learning about Jesus and wanting to be a part of the church in Jerusalem. Some people noticed a problem in the church. Some widows did not have enough food to eat. (A widow is a woman whose husband has died.) Someone needed to help these women and their children.
•  The disciples gathered all the people together. The disciples said: “Someone needs to help the widows. We are busy teaching people about Jesus. Teaching is our job. Choose seven men who are wise and love God. They will be our helpers. The helpers can take food to the women and children who need food. We will do our job of teaching and praying.”
•  The people in the church liked the plan. They chose Stephen, Philip, Prochorus (PRAHK uh ruhs), Nicanor (nigh KAY nawr), Timon (TIGH mahn), Parmenas (PAHR mih nuhs), and Nicolas.
The people brought the seven helpers to the disciples. The disciples prayed for the men. Then the helpers began the important work of caring for the women and children who needed food each day.
•  The disciples continued to teach about Jesus. More and more people learned about Jesus and became part of the church.

FAMILY PLUS Preschool - February 9

Hi Parents and Grandparents,

This week your preschooler will hear the story of the poor woman who gave all of her money at church. They will hear that her action pleased Jesus. Through related learning center activities, boys and girls will realize that people at their church give money and that they can, too. They will hear specific ways their church uses the money given.

Your parent challenge this week is about you helping your preschooler learn about giving. If your child receives an allowance, talk to him/her about setting aside a portion of the allowance to give as an offering at church. For example,  if you give your preschooler allowance and  he/she gets $1.00 a week, suggest he/she set aside 10 cents to give as an offering at church. Don't worry if you don't give your preschooler an allowance. If you don't this may be a good time to start if you want to go that route. There are many ways to teach them about giving other than allowance. You could take them to the grocery store to buy food to give to our food pantry. Here is another idea - you could have 3 jars for them and label them, money for Jesus, money for saving, money to spend. The important thing is that we teach them at an early age about giving. This will be something that they will remember to do as they grow to be a strong christian.

Review the Bible story with your child with his/her take home page from Sunday. Help your child understand one way we can worship God is by bringing an offering to church. Reviewing the Bible verse together will be a great reminder for your preschooler to bring their offering to church.

This Sunday, February 12, 2012 your preschooler will hear this Bible story -

A Woman Gave an Offering
(Mark 12:41-44)
Bible Story Brief -
•  Jesus sat in the temple. He watched the people putting their money in the temple offering boxes. He saw many people coming by, dropping money into the boxes. He saw rich men come to the boxes. The rich men had a lot of money. They could bring large offerings. The rich men threw a lot of money into the offering boxes.
•  Jesus saw a poor widow walk toward the offering boxes. A widow is a woman whose husband has died. The widow did not have much money. She could not bring a large offering.
 •  The widow dropped two small coins in the offering box. Jesus saw her drop the coins in the box. He called His disciples to come to Him.
•  Jesus said, “I am going to tell you something true. That poor widow put in more money than anyone else.” The disciples wondered what Jesus meant.

•  Jesus said, “The rich men put in a lot of money. But they have more money at home. They only gave some of their money. The widow had only a little money. She gave all the money she had.”

Bible Truth - People at church give offerings.
Life Application
-
Can give an offering at church.
Bible Verse
- Bring an offering to church. Malachi 3:10

FAMILY PLUS Preschool - February 3

Hi Parent and Grandparents,

To many preschoolers, church represents a loving and fun place. In February, not only will preschoolers hear Bible stories about people going to church, they will begin to understand that they, too, can do unique things at church. This week they will hear how Solomon led the people to sing and play instruments at the dedication of the temple in Jerusalem. They will have opportunities to sing and talk to God at church.

Your parent challenge this week is to look at the Bible story at bedtime. Tell the story to your child from the take home page that your child's teacher sends home on Sundays. Remark: “In this story the people worshiped God. Where is one place we can worship God?” (church)
This Sunday, February 5, 2012 your preschooler will hear this Bible story -

The People Worshiped God (2 chronicles 3:1-17; 5:1-14)
Bible Story Brief -
•  Solomon was the king of Israel. God had a special job for King Solomon. God wanted him to build the temple. The temple would be a place where people could learn about God and praise and worship Him.
•  Many workers built the temple. Solomon told the workers to use the best wood and stones to build the temple. They built a long porch across the front of the temple. The inside of the temple was covered with gold and decorated with colorful jewels. The workers carved angels on the walls and sewed a blue, purple, and red curtain for the temple. Finally, the temple was finished.
•  Solomon told the priests to bring the ark of the covenant into the temple. He told them to bring all the furniture and the special gifts that David, his father, had saved for the temple. He called all the
people together. The priests dressed in fine linen clothes and went into the temple. They took musical instruments with them— cymbals, harps, lyres, and trumpets.
•  The priests played the instruments and sang. The people praised and thanked God. They sang, “God is good. His love lasts forever.” God heard the words and songs of the people as they worshiped Him.

Bible Truth - People at church worship God.
Life Application - I can worship God at church.
Bible Verse - The people praised and thanked God. 2 Chronicles 5:13

Reminders:
* February 24 - Preschool Pajama Party Ages 3 year olds - Kindergarten Cost $6
