Bible Story: Joseph showed Love to His Brothers. Genesis 45:1-28
Joseph was an important man in Egypt. He had helped Pharaoh, the king, store a lot of grain. A famine began - there was no rain. People everywhere were hungry. They traveled to Egypt to buy grain from Joseph and Pharaoh.

Joseph's brothers came to Egypt to buy grain. They had not seen Joseph in a long time and did not recognize him. For a while, Joseph did not tell his brothers who he was. One day, Joseph said, "I am Joseph, your brother. Is my father still alive?" Joseph's brothers were surprised. When they were younger, they had been mean to Joseph. Now they were afraid of what he would do to them.

Joseph said, "Do not be afraid. Do not worry about what happened a long time ago. God sent me here. God had a plan for me to help many people." he continued, " Go back to Canaan. Tell my father that I am alive. Bring him here to Egypt. Bring all your families, too. The famine will last five more years. You will have enough food to eat. I love you. I will take care of you."

When Pharaoh heard that Joseph's brothers had come, he was happy. He said, "Give them carts. Tell them to bring their families to Egypt, I will give them the best land to live in." Joseph gave his brothers carts, new clothes and other things they would need to move to Egypt.

Back home, the brothers told their father, Jacob, "Joseph is alive. He is a leader in Egypt." Jacob didn't believe them. The brothers told Jacob all that Joseph had said. Jacob saw the carts that Joseph had sent. He said, "I believe you! I will move to Egypt and see my son, Joseph." Jacob, all the brothers, and all of their families moved to Egypt.

FAMILY PLUS Preschool - May 12

This weeks lesson is about a family helping someone that needed food and a place to rest. What does the world teach us about helping other people? How many people have bought into the belief that they serve others to get what they want? What does the Bible teach about helping people? There are multiple opportunities to help families at our church that even preschoolers can be involved in. They can help you pick out food for our food closet. They could also help with the His Babies Ministry. We can teach our children that our families can love and care for one another and for others just as this woman did in our story.

Bible Story: A Family helped Elisha 2 Kings 4:8-17
Elisha was a prophet. Elisha walked from town to town telling people what God wanted them to know. When Elisha came to a town, he needed a place to rest and eat.

Elisha often visited the town of Shunem. A woman there invited Elisha to eat with her and her husband. She told Elisha that he could eat and rest at their house when he came to their town.

One day the woman said to her husband, "Elisha helps people know about God. Lets build a room for him on the roof of our house. We can put a bed, table, chair and a lamp in the room. Whenever he comes to our town, Elisha will have a comfortable place to rest and eat."

The next time Elisha came to Shunem, he stopped at the man and woman's house. The man and woman took Elisha to the flat roof of the house. They showed Elisha his new room. Elisha was very thankful for the room.

One day as Elisha was resting in his room, he called for his helper Gehazi. Elisha said, "Go and get the woman." Gehazi brought the woman to Elisha. Elisha said, " You have built a room for me. What can I do for you?"

The woman did not want Elisha to do anything for her. The woman and her husband helped Elisha because they knew God wanted them to help him.

FAMILY PLUS Update - May 12

This weeks Bible story reminds us all just how important it is to talk to our family about God and Jesus. My brother, Butch, helped lead me to Christ when I was a teenager.  Just like this weeks story about Timothy's family, my brother talked to me about how important it is to read the Bible and that the Bible will help you understand more about God and Jesus. He would also encourage me to do things that are right. I will be forever grateful that he did.

Bible Story: Timothy Learned About God. Acts 16:1-3; 2 Timothy 1:1-5; 2:14-17
Paul was a missionary who traveled from place to place. He told people about God and Jesus. One day, Paul met a young man named Timothy. Paul heard people say good things about Timothy. They said Timothy loved God and Jesus.

Paul asked Timothy to help him tell others about Jesus. Timothy traveled with Paul. They talked to many people, telling them about Jesus and and about God. They helped start new churches so more people could learn what the Bible said about God and Jesus.

After he left Paul, Timothy received a letter from Paul. Paul wrote" "I am praying for you. I wish I could see you again. I remember how much you loved God, and I know how you want to tell other people about Jesus."

In the letter, Paul reminded Timothy of how Timothy had learned from the Bible when he was a boy: " Your mother, Eunice and your grandmother Lois taught you about God. Since your were a child, you have learned from the Bible. Keep doing the things you know are right. The Bible is an important book. The Bible will help you understand about God and learn about Jesus. FAMILY PLUS Preschool - May 5

This Sunday your child will continue to hear that God made people to live in families and know that He wants family members to love and care for one another.

This week parents challenge- Read Exodus 2:1-10. When Jochebed gave birth to a son, she did as Pharaoh commanded, sort of! She put him in the Nile, but compassionately, in a carefully crafted basket. She assigns his older sister, Miriam, to watch over him. I believe God lead her to a particular spot. Do you think think Jochebed knew it was the princess's bathing area? I don't think this story was coincidence it was God-incident. What "God incidents" have helped your family confront or overcome dangers? Think about the many ways that God was at work protecting you and your family.
Find ways to include your child in helping at home. Even as young as they are they can learn that family members care about one another.

Gently, Jochebed placed her baby in the basket. She set the basket in the reeds near the edge of the Nile River. Miriam stayed ear the rier to watch her baby brother.

Miriam came out of the tall grass. "Do you want me to get someone to take care of the baby?" "Yes!," said Pharaoh's daughter. Miriam hurried to get her mother. "Take this baby and care for him, "Pharaoh's daughter said to Jochebed. "I will pay you to take care of the baby." Jochebed took the baby home to take care of him.
