FAMILY PLUS Preschool - December 30

Hi Parents and Grandparents,

I hope you had a wonderful Christmas and was able to spend time with your family. It's hard to believe that this year has only a few days left. 2011 was a great year for me. I hope it was for you as well. I feel closer to God than I have ever been before. I am looking forward to what He has planned for me in 2012. Its an incredible feeling to know that He is in control of it all.

If you have not registered for the Family Plus event on Wednesday, January 4, 2012, please click here to learn more about the event. There will be something for every parent. You do not want to miss this special night The New Generation Team has planned for you. I hope to see you there.

As the New Year begins, your preschooler will learn about an important and valuable part of his/her spiritual growth – the love of God. Preschoolers will understand that God loves and cares for each one of them. Bible stories this month will highlight how
• God cares for them
• God gives them what they need
• God helps them
• God is with them everywhere they go
• God gives them a family

This Sunday, January 1, 2012 your preschooler will hear a story about -

Noah (Genesis 6:9-10,14-22; 7:1,13-19; 8:1-3,13-20; 9:12-16)
Bible Story Brief -
• Noah obeyed and loved God. One day God told Noah about a flood that would cover the earth. God told Noah to build an ark to protect Noah, his family, and many animals.
• God told Noah exactly how to build the ark from cypress wood with sticky tar to keep the water out. The ark had three floors, rooms and stalls, a roof, a window, and a door on the side. Noah obeyed God and built the ark from God’s instructions.
• When the ark was finished, Noah stored food on it. God sent two of every animal onto the ark. God told Noah to take his family onto the ark. When they were all inside, God shut the door.
• It rained and rained for forty days. The flood covered the tops o fthe mountains. The ark floated on the water. Everyone in the ark was safe. Finally, the rain stopped. God sent a wind and dried up the water until the ground appeared.
• God said to Noah, “Come out of the ark. Bring your family and the animals.” Noah, his family, and all of the animals came out of the ark. Noah built an altar and thanked God for His care.

Bible Truth - God cares for us and helps us.
Life Application - I can discover God cares for me.

FAMILY PLUS Preschool - December 16

Hi Parents and Grandparents,

I hope you all are enjoying the month of December. It's hard to believe that 2011 is almost over. Make sure you take time these last few weeks to make new memories with your family. Take time to remember what all the celebration is all about.

This Sunday December 18, 2011 We will combine two lessons this week -

Good News! Jesus Was Born
(Luke 2:1-20) and Wise Men visited Jesus (Matthew 2:1-12)
Bible Story Brief -
• Caesar Augustus wanted to count all of the people in his empire. Joseph and Mary had to travel from Nazareth to Bethlehem to be counted. It was almost time for Mary’s baby to be born.
• When Mary and Joseph reached Bethlehem, the inn, where travelers stayed, was full. Mary and Joseph had to find a different place to stay. That night, Mary’s baby was born! Mary wrapped Baby Jesus in soft cloths. Gently, she laid Him in the manger.
• In the fields nearby, shepherds cared for their sheep. Suddenly, they saw an angel and a bright light shining around them. The shepherds were frightened. The angel said, “Do not be afraid. I have good news for you! Today in Bethlehem, a baby has been born. The baby is Jesus, God’s Son. You will find Him wrapped in soft cloths and lying in a manger.” Many more angels gathered and praised God.
• After the angels left, the shepherds said, “Let’s go see this baby called Jesus!” They found Mary, Joseph, and Baby Jesus – lying in the manger, just like the angel said. Mary remembered everything that happened. She thought about it over and over.
• On the way home, the shepherds thanked God. They told everyone they saw the good news: Jesus, God’s Son, had been born!

• Far from Bethlehem, wise men watched the stars in the nighttime sky. One night, they saw a bright, new star. They knew this star
meant a special child had been born. They wanted to see the child and bring Him gifts.
• The wise men traveled a long way across the desert. When they came to Jerusalem, they asked King Herod, “Where is the special child? We saw a bright star in the sky and knew He had been born. We have come to worship Him.”
• King Herod was not happy to hear this news. He asked the priests and teachers, “Where is this child?” They answered, “The Bible scroll says He will be born in Bethlehem.” King Herod told the wise men, “Go! Look for the boy. As soon as you find Him, tell me, so I can go and worship Him, too.”
• All the way to Bethlehem, the wise men followed the bright star. Finally, they saw it shining over a house. Inside, they saw Jesus with His mother, Mary. The men bowed down to worship Jesus. They gave Him their gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.
• When it was time to leave, God told the wise men in a dream not to go back to Jerusalem. So, they took a different road home.

Bible Truths - God sent Jesus to be born. Wise men worshiped Jesus.
Life Applications- I can celebrate Jesus’ birth. I can worship Jesus.
Bible Verses - Good news! Jesus is born! Luke 2:10-11 The wise men worshiped Jesus. Matthew 2:11

Conversation Starter: Many families eat out at least one meal a week. As you wait in line for your food, review the Bible verse with your child. Guide him to recite it using a father’s voice, a mother’s voice, and finally a child’s voice. Remark: “When we celebrate Christmas we are celebrating Jesus’ birth.”

*Don't forget the Christmas Eve Eve services Friday, December 23rd at 6pm and 7:30pm. (This is when we will show the video your preschoolers have been working on!)
*Next Sunday, Christmas Day Service, is at 10:30.

Enjoy time with your families. Merry Christmas to each of you!

Bridget :)

FAMILY PLUS Preschool - December 9

Hi Parents and Grandparents,

This week your preschoolers will learn that God chose Joseph to help care for Baby Jesus. God chose Joseph to be Jesus’ earthly father. Ask your preschooler questions like: “What are some things daddies do to make boys and girls laugh?” or “What do daddies look like?” Remind your preschooler that Jesus had an earthly daddy named Joseph, who helped care for Jesus. Pray with your preschooler, thanking God for Jesus and for daddies. If you miss any week this month due to travel or vacation, read the passage from the take home page to your preschooler. Discuss the story as a family and talk about ways your family can help to celebrate the good news of Jesus at Christmas.

This Sunday, December 11, 2011 Your preschooler will hear this story:
Mary and Joseph Heard Good News (Matthew 1:18-25, Luke 1:26-56)
Bible Story Brief -
• God sent an angel named Gabriel to the town of Nazareth to talk to a woman named Mary. “Mary,” the angel said, “God is pleased with you. He has chosen you.” Mary wondered what the angel meant. “Do not be afraid,” the angel said. “God has chosen you to be the mother of a special baby boy. His name will be Jesus.”
• Mary did not understand. Gabriel said, “You are part of God’s plan. The baby will be God’s Son.” Mary said, “I will do what God
wants me to do.”Mary went to visit her cousin, Elizabeth, who was expecting a baby. Elizabeth was very happy for Mary. Mary sang a song to thank God. Later, Mary returned home.
• Joseph was a kind man who loved God. He wanted to marry Mary and do the right things for her. One night, God sent an angel to Joseph in a dream. The angel said, “Joseph, do not be afraid to marry Mary. She is going to have a baby, God’s Son. You will name Him Jesus. He will help all people.”
• When Joseph awoke, he knew the words had come from God. Joseph did what God told him to do. Joseph and Mary were married. They became a family. They waited for the day Jesus would be born.

Bible Truth - God chose a family for Jesus.
Life Application - I can understand God chose Jesus’ family.
Bible Verse - You will give birth to a son and call Him Jesus. Luke 1:31

Conversation Starter - If you have time, purchase two matching sets of Christmas cards that feature the biblical theme of Christmas. Cut the front off of each card and make a matching game. Place all cards face up and challenge your child to find two cards that match. As you play the game, review the Bible verse, “You will give birth to a son and call Him Jesus. Luke 1:31.” Show your child Luke 1:31 in the Bible. With conversation, help your child understand God chose Jesus’ family. Say: “God chose Mary and Joseph as parents for Jesus.”

FAMILY PLUS Preschool - December 1

Hey Parents and Grandparents,

Christmas is one of the most exciting times of the year for a preschooler. It is full of family, fun, food, and fellowship. This is sondergu

I have a sweet story from a preschool parent. The conversation was with a mother and her 4 year old son. She was telling him he needed to go and he was telling her he didn't need to. The mother told him he needed to go to his Wednesday night class so he could learn about Jesus. He replied with "I already know everything about Jesus." The mother then asked "Oh Yea, then where was Jesus born?" He said proudly with enthusiasm "Duh He was born in the United States." Then she told him that he would be going to class.

This Sunday, December 4, 2011, your child will hear about:

Isaiah Wrote that Jesus Would Be Born (Isaiah 1:1; 6:1,8; 7:14; 9:6-7; 11:1-5)

• Isaiah said, “Send me, God. I will go.” Isaiah became a prophet. A prophet tells people what God wants them to know.
• God chose Isaiah to tell the people some wonderful news. Isaiah told people what God told him. He wrote about what God told him.
Isaiah told and wrote words about God’s special plan. Isaiah wrote that a young woman would have a son, a special baby boy. The
special baby would be God’s Son. The baby would be Jesus.
• God’s message helped the people know that Jesus would love all people. Jesus would help people understand more about God. He
would grow into a man. He would be wise. He would help people know and love God. He would always do what is right and would help

FAMILY PLUS Preschool - November 18

Hi Parents and Grandparents!
Thanksgiving is next week, this week is the perfect time to talk about thankfulness. Teaching thankfulness is important. Most of what a young child learns about thankfulness, he/she learns from the grown-ups in his/her life. Here are a few ways to model thankfulness and gratitude for your preschooler:

*Say thank you to your child when he/she picks up their toys or when they bring you their shoes.
* Let your child see and hear you say thank you to others who serve or help you, such as the employee at the grocery story, the server at the restaurant, or the teller at the bank.
* Say a prayer of thanks to God before each meal and snack.
* Take a walk and look for things in nature for which to thank God.
* Make a game of counting blessings each night when you tuck your child in bed. See how many blessings you can name that God gave you that day. Tell God thank you.
* Encourage your preschooler to name things for which they can thank God.

This Sunday, November 20, 2011 Your preschooler will hear a story about -

David Praised and Thanked God (1 Chronicles 15:1-4,11-12,14-28; 16:1-43)
Bible Story Brief -
• David was the king in Israel. He set up a special tent where the people could worship God. In it, he wanted to place the ark of the
covenant. God had chosen the Levites to take care of the ark of the covenant.
• When the tent was ready, David gathered all the people together. He said to the Levites, “Get ready to carry the ark of the covenant
to its place in the tent church.”
• All of the people followed the Levites carrying the ark of the covenant. Some people sang songs of praise to God. Some played
cymbals, trumpets, or harps to worship and praise God.
• At the tent church, King David gave offerings to God. He told the people God loved them. He gave them bread and cakes made with
dates and raisins to eat.
• David sang, “Thank God. Tell everyone what God has done for us. Sing to God. God always remembers and keeps His promises. God
is great and should be praised. Give thanks to God for He is good.”
• All the people said “Amen” and “Praise God!” After they worshiped and thanked God, they went home.

Bible Verse - Sing songs of praise to God. 1 Chronicles 16:9
Life Application - I can praise and thank God.
Bible Truth - God wants me to thank Him.

Conversation Starter - Show your child the Bible teaching picture on the weekly take home page. Review the Bible story together. At mealtimes and bedtimes, say: “We can give thanks to God.” Include your child in mealtime prayers and other prayers this week.

Find time to tell the Bible story to your child and his/her friend. As the children play together, comment: “You are taking turns and being kind. This reminds me of this week’s Bible verse, ‘God loves us so we should love one another. 1 John 4:11.’ ” Invite the two children to hop up and down and say the verse, turn in a circle and say the verse, and hold hands and sway back and forth as they say the verse together.

FAMILY PLUS Preschool - November 4

Hi Parents and Grandparents!

As you know, your preschooler is growing and changing daily. This month at church, your preschooler will explore things that God made them able to do as they grow. As they listen to Bible stories and participate in activities, they will become more aware that they have the ability to make choices—both right and wrong choices. Hopefully, they will better understand that helping their families, showing love to their friends, giving thanks to God, and demonstrating kindness to others are right choices they can make.

I want to encourage you to send me stories about your preschooler. It can be any story about them serious or funny. I would love to hear about them and I want to share them with others. I promise not to mention their name unless you want me to.

This Sunday November 6, 2011 your preschooler will hear a story about -
Samuel Anointed David (1 Samuel 16:1-13)
Bible Story Brief -
• God had chosen one of Jesse’s eight sons to be the next king. God sent Samuel to Bethlehem to anoint him.
• Samuel invited the leaders of the town, Jesse, and all of Jesse’s sons to an offering to God.
• Jesse came with seven of his sons. Samuel looked at each one. God had not chosen any of them to be the next king. Samuel asked Jesse, “Do you have any more sons?”
• Jesse replied, “My youngest son is watching the sheep.” Samuel told Jesse to send for David.
• David came. He looked healthy and handsome. God told Samuel that David was the one to anoint. Samuel put oil on David’s head to anoint him.
• It was God’s plan for David to be the chosen king.

Bible Truth - God wants me to do what He says.
Life Application - I can learn to do what God says.
Bible Verse - Do what God says. Deuteronomy 8:6

Conversation Starters: On Monday night, include this Bible story at bedtime. Read the Bible story from the Weekly take home page. Point to the Bible verse. Say the verse together several times. Later in the week, take time to make a Do What God Says Chart. List four ways your child can do what God says. Ideas might include going to church, saying the Bible verse, hearing the Bible story, or obeying parents by going to bed on time. Give your child a sticker to put beside each item as he/she completes it. Comment: “You are doing what the Bible tells you. You are doing what God says.”

FAMILY PLUS Preschool - October 28

Hi Parents and Grandparents,
I would like to hear stories about your preschooler like the story I shared last week of inviting Jesus to come snuggle. I love when children know what to do sometimes before us parents do. Let me know your stories so that we can share them. Here is a story that a mom shared with me this week. Her children came running to her screaming and crying that their dog had ran off. They had accidentally let the dog out of the fence and they could not find her. The 7 year old daughter explained to her mom that her and her little brother had already prayed that the dog would come back. They went running out to find the dog and she's standing in the garage looking at them. The 4 year old son said with tears streaming down his face "God does live down here wiff us." This is a wonderful reminder to pray first about everything.

This Sunday, October 30, 2011 your preschooler will hear a story about:
Peter Wrote about Jesus (Matthew 4:18-24; 2 peter 1:1,12-21)
Bible Story Brief -
• Peter was a fisherman. One day Jesus said, “Come with Me. I want you to help Me tell people about God.”
• Peter went with Jesus. Peter saw Jesus make sick people well. He heard Jesus teach about God’s love.
• Later, Peter wrote letters about Jesus. He wrote: “I, Simon Peter, a disciple of Jesus, write to you and remind you about the things that
Jesus did. I want you to remember them always.”
• “When I tell about Jesus,” Peter wrote, “I am telling you what really happened. I saw it myself. God sent Jesus. Jesus did what God wanted Him to do.”
• Peter also wrote about the Bible: “Pay attention to what the Bible says. The words in the Bible are not people’s words; they are God’s words. The Bible tells us what God wants us to know.”
• People read the letter from Peter.

Bible Truth - The Bible tells us about Jesus’ life and teachings.

Life Application - I will learn the Bible teaches about Jesus.

Bible Verse - The Bible teaches us about Jesus. 2 Timothy 3:15

Conversation Starter for this week: Locate several Bibles in your home. Invite your child to look at each Bible. Show him/her where 2 Timothy is in the Bible. Remark: “The Bible has stories about Jesus.” Using the weekly take home page, review this week’s Bible story. Ask: “Who does the Bible tell us about?” (Jesus)

FAMILY PLUS Preschool - October 21

Hi Parents and Grandparents,

I hope you have been enjoying the cooler weather. Cooler weather always makes me want to snuggle up in a blanket. As a matter of fact its just one more reason to do so with your preschooler. A mother shared a story with me just this past week about snuggling. As the mother was tucking in her four year old daughter, her daughter said "Mommy can we invite Jesus to come into our home so that we can snuggle with Him?" Just the thought of a preschooler snuggling with Jesus warms my heart. Take the time this week and snuggle with your preschooler.

This Sunday October 23, 2011 your preschooler will hear a story about:
Philip Taught from the Bible (Acts 8:4-8,26-40)

Bible Story Brief -
• Philip was in Samaria, telling people about Jesus. The people in Samaria listened to Philip and saw how he healed many people. There were many happy people in the city.
• An angel spoke to Philip and told him to go to the desert road that went from Jerusalem to Gaza. So Philip started walking down the
desert road. As he walked, he saw a man riding in a chariot. The man in the chariot had been to Jerusalem to worship God. Now he
was on the long trip back to Ethiopia.
• As Philip ran up to the chariot, he heard the man reading a Bible scroll. Philip asked him, “Do you understand what you are reading?” The Ethiopian man said, “I need someone to explain the words to me.” He invited Philip to sit beside him in the chariot and explain the words.
• Philip climbed into the chariot. Philip told the good news about Jesus. Philip baptized the man in water near the road. The man went home very happy. Philip traveled to other places to tell people about Jesus.

Bible Truth - People help me learn from the Bible.

Life Application - I will discover who helps me learn about the Bible.

Bible Phrase - God’s words in the Bible help us learn. Psalm 119:130

Conversation Starter for this week: Show your child this week’s weekly take home page. Comment: “Do you remember what the man from Ethiopia was riding in?” (chariot) Together, review the Bible story. Find a box big enough for your child to sit in. Help him/her use the box to make a chariot. You may want to offer two unsharpened pencils and a strip of paper so your child can make a scroll. Tell the story again as your child pretends to ride in the chariot (as Philip) and uses the scroll to teach the man from Ethiopia about Jesus.

This Sunday October 16, 2011 your preschooler will hear a story about:
Paul Told About Jesus (Acts 17:1-4,10-12)

Bible Story Brief
• Paul and Silas loved God and wanted to teach other people about Him.
• They traveled to one big city where people did not know about Jesus. Paul and Silas went to the church and taught the people about God and Jesus.
• Some of the people were happy to hear that Jesus loved them.
• So Paul and Silas traveled to another town. They went to the church in that town and began teaching the people about God and Jesus. The people in this town were glad to hear what Paul and Silas told them.
• The people looked in the Bible and read the same words that Paul and Silas had taught them.

Bible Verse: All God’s words are true. Psalm 119:160

Life Application: I will explore ways we use the Bible at church.

Bible Truth: People at church read the Bible.

Conversation Starter: Find the Bible verses for October 2, 9, and this week. Read them together. Ask: “Are all of God’s words true? Where can we find God’s words?” (in the Bible) Add this week’s take hope page to the notebook. Take time to review this week’s Bible story, as you read to your child at bedtime this week.

FAMILY PLUS Preschool - October 6

Hi Parents and Grandparents of Preschoolers from New Orleans! I am on a mission trip with our High School Students this week. I love serving along side of them. They are very talented and are willing to serve at wherever or whatever is needed. They are definitely shining their light here in New Orleans.  I do miss your preschooler and can't wait to see them this Sunday.

This week look for moments with your child to teach him or her that the Bible is important to you. Let him see you read your Bible. Explore the Bibles at your house. Talk about the similarities and differences. Talk about ways we use the Bible at church and mention the people in your child's life who teach him or her about the Bible. Encourage them to realize that the Bible is a special book.

Each age group is the same this week. I have simplified the story for all ages to understand.

This Sunday, October 9    “Josiah Read the Lost Scroll” 2 Kings 22:1-20; 23:1-3
Bible Verse: The Bible is right. Psalm 33:4
Life Application: I can understand the Bible teaches me what to do.

Bible Story - Josiah Read the Lost Scroll "2 Kings 22:1-20; 23:1-3"
Here is your conversation starter for this week: Print or write the Bible verse on five different pieces of paper. Hide the paper in your child’s room. At bedtime, say: “I have hidden an important message five different places in your room. Can you find each one?” As your child finds each piece of paper, read the verse together. Touch each word as you read it. Refer to the weekly take home  page and include the Bible story as one of the stories you read to your child tonight. Ask: “Should we put this Bible verse on the refrigerator? It is a good verse to remember.” Allow your child to place the verse on the refrigerator before going to bed. Add this week’s weekly take home page to the notebook.

Bible Story Brief:
•     The church needed to be cleaned and repaired. The people had stopped going to church. They had not heard anyone read from the Bible scroll.
•     King Josiah said to one of his helpers, “Tell Hilkiah (hil KIGH uh) to count the money that the people brought to the church a long time ago;  then he can give it to carpenters, builders, and other workers to repair the church.”
•     While they worked, the workers found a Bible scroll. Hilkiah gave the scroll to one of the king’s helpers. The king’s helper read it to the king. When King Josiah heard the words, he was upset. “We have not been doing what God wants us to do,” the king said.
•     King Josiah called all the people to the church. He read the Bible  scroll to them. They all told God that they would do what God wanted them to do. King Josiah and the people were glad they had found the Bible scroll.

Bible Truth - The Bible tells what God wants us to do.
Life Application - I will understand that we read the Bible to learn what God wants us to do.
Bible Phrase - The Bible tells us what to do. 2 Timothy 3:16

FAMILY PLUS Preschool - September 30

Hi Parents and Grandparents of Preschoolers,
During October, your preschooler will be learning in the 9:15 hour and Wee Worship that the Bible tells about God and Jesus. Preschoolers should begin to understand that the Bible is a special book that people use at church and home. Your child will hear the following Bible stories and Bible phrases this week:

October 2, 2011 - Jeremiah Wrote About God (Jeremiah 36:1-4,22-24,27-28,32)
God told people to write His words. Jeremiah 36:2
*Help your child realize that the Bible tells about God.

Each age group is the same this week. I have simplified the story for all ages to understand.

Bible Story - Jeremiah Wrote About God (Jeremiah 36:1-4,22-24,27-28,32)
Here is your conversation starter for this week: Provide a variety of pens and markers with paper. Invite your child to print his name or other words he or she might know. If they can't write a letter or their names, you can write it and allow them to write or scribble. Comment: “Your Bible story in Sunday School was about a man who wrote about God.” Point to the name Jeremiah on the take home page. Review the Bible story. Comment: “People wrote God’s words in the Bible.” Place the weekly take home page in a notebook for later use and keep it with your child’s books. This will allow you to go back and revisit any Bible story any time or as often as she or he would like.

Bible Story Brief:
•     God told Jeremiah how He wanted the people to live. One day God said to Jeremiah, “Get a scroll. Write all the words I have told
you.”
•     God asked Jeremiah to write down His words so that the people would never forget them.
•     Jeremiah asked his friend Baruch to write on the scroll all the words God had spoken.
•     When the scroll was written, one of the king’s helpers read it to the king. The king did not like what the Bible scroll said. He cut the scroll into pieces and threw it into the fire.
•     God told Jeremiah to get another scroll and write all the words again. Baruch helped Jeremiah write the words on the scroll. The words Jeremiah wrote are in the Bible.

Bible Truth - The Bible tells about God.
Life Application - I will realize that the Bible tells about God.
Bible Phrase - God told people to write His words. Jeremiah 36:2

FAMILY PLUS Preschool - September 22

Hi Parents and Grandparents of Preschoolers!

When you talk about the Bible story to your preschooler, emphasize that one way Jesus showed love was by making sick people well. Pray with your child, thanking God for Jesus, who made sick people well.  Thank Him for Jesus and for showing that He loved them by healing people.

This Sunday, September 25th our Bible story will be,   “Jesus Healed a Deaf Man” Mark 7:31-37
Each age group is the same this week. I have simplified the story for all ages to understand.

Here is a conversation starter for this week: After taking a look at the take home page on Sunday, tell the Bible story at bedtime one night next week. Bible Story - “Jesus Healed a Deaf Man” Mark 7:31-37
Bible Story Brief
•     One day some people brought a man to see Jesus. The man could not hear any sounds. When he tried to talk, no one could understand what he said. The people asked Jesus to make the man well.

FAMILY PLUS Preschool - August 18

Hi Parents!

We will continue teaching in August about growing and learning to do many different things just as God planned. Through Bible stories and a variety of activities, preschoolers will become more aware of ways they are growing and things they can do, such as ways they can help others, right choices they can make, and that they can be thankful.

Watch as your child attempts new things and learns new skills. Affirm his efforts and compliment different ways you see him growing and developing. For example, when your child helps someone or does something he is told, thank him for making a right choice. Mention that he is learning the right things to do. At the same time, when your child makes the wrong choice, remember that growing and learning to make wise choices is a lifelong process. Talk with your child and help him to understand why what he did is wrong. Then think of a positive way to encourage him to make the right choice.

Your preschooler will be hearing these Bible stories and Bible phrases at church during August. Look for opportunities to mention these Bible stories and phrases to your child at home.

FAMILY PLUS Preschool - August 13

Do you ever wonder about how God sees you?  This weeks story tell us how important it is for us to use our gifts that God has given us. In 1 Samuel 16:1-23 God saw something in David that no one else could see. David used his gifts to help his family and others. God uses ordinary men and women to accomplish God's work in the world. Ask God to help you see yourself as He sees you.

One day a helper from the king's house asked David to play the harp for the king. The king was sad, and the music would help him feel better. David wanted to help, so he played music for the king. The king began to feel better!

David did many things to help.

David lived with his father and seven brothers. He helped his family by taking care of the sheep. David gave them food to eat and water to drink. He kept the sheep safe from wild animals. Sometimes when David watched the sheep, he played his harp. David liked to make music on his harp and sing songs to God.

One day King Saul was feeling sad. His helpers said that listening to harp music would make him feel better. "Find someone who plays the harp. Bring him to me," said King Saul.

One of the helpers told the king about David. King Saul sent some men to talk to David's father. They told David's father that King Saul needed David to come to his house. The king wanted David to play beautiful music to help him feel better.

So David took his harp and went to the king's house. When David began playing beautiful music on his harp, the king felt better. David stayed with King Saul and played music on the harp whenever the king felt sad.

FAMILY PLUS Preschool - August 5

God designed children to grow as His own Son did, physically, spiritually, mentally and socially. In August your preschooler will hear how they are growing. Through Bible focused activities they will come to know what God made them able to do. They will be given opportunities to do the things God wants them and others to do like help, be kind and love and care for others.

Every year when school starts back we have promotion Sunday. What this means for you is that your preschooler will be moving to the next class this Sunday. I sent out postcards to let you know which class your preschooler moved to. If for some reason you did not receive a card, Mrs. Katie and I will be happy to help you find the correct class at the assisted child check in station.

This Sunday August 7, 2011
Every age group's story is the same this week. I simplified them for you.

1's and 2's
1 Samuel 3;1,19-21 tells us how important it is to teach our children about God and to start teaching them at an early age. The early training Samuel received stayed with him all his life. Samuel was a prophet, one that men from all parts of Israel could consult. Because of Hannah's Prayers and faithfulness, the nation of Israel had a prophet who revealed the word of God to all Israel.

Bible Story:
Samuel Grew 1 Samuel 1:1-28
Samuel was a young boy. His family loved him. They took Samuel to church to learn about God. Samuel grew and grew. His mother made a bright new coat for Samuel to wear at church.

Eli was the teacher at the church. While Samuel was at church, he learned from Teacher Eli. Each day Teacher Eli told Samuel about God. Eli helped Samuel know that God made him and loved him. Eli told Samuel to listen to the words God said. Samuel learned that what God said was important.

God help Samuel grow and learn.

Bible Truth:
God me me to grow.

Bible Verse: God helps us learn. Proverbs 2:6

Bible Concept: God made me.

Bible Skill: Can open the Bible to a marked verse or story.

Bible Story: Samuel Grew 1 Samuel 1:1-28; 2:18-21, 26
Hannah and Elkanah had a baby boy named Samuel. They loved Samuel very much. They knew that God loved baby Samuel, too. They wanted Samuel to learn about God.

Samuel grew. Samuel's parents took him to the tabernacle. At the tabernacle, Samuel met Eli. Eli was a priest and teacher at the tabernacle. Samuel's parents told Eli that they wanted Samuel to help Eli. Eli could teach Samuel what to do at the tabernacle. Eli could teach Samuel about God.

Samuel listened to Eli. He did the things that Eli taught him to do. Samuel helped keep the lamps burning in the tabernacle. He opened the doors to the tabernacle in the mornings. He worked to help Eli.

Samuel also listened to Eli when Eli told him about God. Eli taught Samuel how to talk to God and listen to God. Samuel talked to God. He listened to God. He did the things that God wanted him to do.

Because Samuel was growing, each year Hannah made him  a new coat. When she and Elkanah went tot he tabernacle, she brought the new coat to Samuel.

As Samuel grew older, God helped him. God was with Samuel in everything he did. People listened to what Samuel said. They knew that Samuel's words were true. They knew that Samuel knew about God and what God wanted them to do.

Bible Truth: I am growing as God planned.

Bible Verse: God is with you in everything you do. Genesis 21:22
Level of Bible Skills: Can remember simple verses with Bible references.

Peter's friends at church were sad. They loved Peter and wanted to help him. So they began to talk to God. The friends asked God to watch over Peter and keep him safe.

God helped Peter. Later Peter went to a friend's house and knocked on the door. a girl at the house shouted, "Peter is at the door!"

Bible Story: Peter Prayed for Peter Acts 12:1-17
God wanted Peter to tell others about Jesus, so that is what Peter did. King Herod did not want Peter to teach about Jesus. The king put Peter in prison. When Peter's church friends found out what King Herod had done, they began to pray for God to help Peter.

One night when Peter was asleep, a bright light shone in the prison. An angel appeared. He woke Peter up. "Hurry!" the angel said. "Get up! Get dressed! Put on your sandals and your coat and come with me." Peter did what the angel told him to do.

Peter and the angel waked past the prison guards. The prison gate onpend by itself. Peter and the angel walked through it into the city. Then the angel left. Peter thought he had been dreaming, but he realized he was not. he said, "God sent the angel to help  me."

Peter went to Mary's house, where his church friends were praying. he knocked on the dor. Thoda came to the door. When she heard Peter's voice, she was so excited that she forgot to open the door and let Peter in!

"Peter is at the door! she told the friends who were praying, but they didn't believe her. Peter kept knocking. Finally someone opened the door. The church friends were surprised to see Peter standing there!

Peter motioned with his hand for them to be quiet. He told his friends how God had helped him. Peter said, "Tell our other friends what has happened tonight. Tell them how God helped me."

FAMILY PLUS Preschool - July 21

Summer is coming to a close next week. I hope you had the opportunity to spend time with your families over the summer. It's not to late. You don't have to spend a lot of money. Your back yard is full of memories waiting to happen. Pitch a tent, spend time looking at the moon and stars, or catch lighting bugs. The important thing is to spend time together.

God gives all believers spiritual gifts that he expects them to use in His work. He also calls all believers to share the gospel by using those spiritual gifts. Satan is sure to bring opposition, but God sustains us through the opposition.

God used Paul and Barnabas  in Iconium to reach many Jews and Gentiles with the gospel. However, they also encountered opposition. Do you think the persecution discouraged Paul and Barnabas? God's word is clear that they continued to preach, spending a considerable time there. These leaders were committed to the Lord so they could carry out His will.

Read Acts 14:24-28. Paul and Barnabas returned to Antioch and told the church what God had done through them. God had enlarged His kingdom through their efforts. This weeks story reminds us that we need to pray for missionaries and people who need to hear the gospel. I often remind the preschoolers that they are missionaries too. That you don't always have to travel the world to be a missionary. Go tell others about Jesus.

Bible Story: Paul and Barnabas Told About Jesus Acts 13:1-3; 14:1-3, 21-28
Paul and Barnabas were teachers. They and others taught  in the church at Antioch. One day when the teachers in the church were worshiping God, god told them He wanted Paul and Barnabas to do some special work. The others teachers prayed for Paul and Barnabas and sent them off to other places to tell about Jesus. Paula and Barnabas became traveling missionaries.

Paul and Barnabas traveled to may places teaching about Jesus. In one town, they went into a synagogue and listened to someone read from the Bible Scroll. Paul taught the men more about God and Jesus. When they started to leave the synagogue, the people invited them to come back the next week and teach them more about Jesus.

During the week, people followed Paul and Barnabas to learn more about Jesus. The next week a large crowd of people came to hear them at the synagogue. Some of the leaders did not want Paul and Barnabas to talk to the crowd of people. They said unkind things about Paul and Barnabas.

Paul and Barnabas said, "We will tell everyone about Jesus. God wants all people to know that He sent His Son, Jesus." Some people were happy to hear about Jesus. They told others the good news about Jesus.

The same thing happened in another town. Paul and Barnabas left that town and told people in other places about Jesus. In all those places they helped people begin churches where they could learn more about Jesus.

FAMILY PLUS Preschool - July 14

Preschool day camp is coming to a close this week. We had a blast learning Bible stories and songs. Several of the children that came this week were from the community. We give our praise to Jesus for that. It has been an incredible week.

Each age group's story varies a little this week. I have simplified each age level.

1's and 2's and 3's through Pre-K
This weeks story Jesus healed a paralytic. Read Mark 2:1-12. The healing proved He was God's Son and had the authority to forgive sins and to work miracles. The man stood, picked up his mat, and walked out of the house. What was the reaction of the crowd?
The reaction of the four friends is not recorded, but imagine their joy at seeing their friend walk! They worked together in faith to carry their friend to the One who could heal him. Sunday's story reminds us that sometimes we just have to take our friends to Jesus. Thinking about our unsaved friends. How are ways we can do just that.
Bible Story: Four Helpful Friends Mark 2:1:12
Jesus was teaching about God. many people gathered in the house where Jesus was. Soon people crowded outside the door. Everyone wanted to hear Jesus.

Outside the house were four men who brought their friend who could not walk. The men wanted to get their friend inside to see Jesus. They tried to push through the crowd but could not get to the door.

Then the four men picked up the sick friend's mat. They carried him up the steps to the roof of the house. The men dug a large hole in the roof. Carefully, they lowered their friend down through the hole until his mat touched the floor and he was right in front of Jesus.

Jesus said, "Get up. Take your mat and go home."

The man got up, took his mat, and walked. Jesus had made the man well!

The people who saw the man walk could hardly believe it. They said, "We have never seen anything like this!" The people thanked God for what they had seen.

Bible Truth: Friends Help each other know about Jesus.

Bible Verse: Help one another. Galatians 5:13 and Tell people about Jesus Matthew 28:19-20

Bible Concept: People tell about God and Jesus.

Bible Skill: Can hear Bible verses and relate to your preschoolers everyday activities.

Kindergarten and Wee Worship
Rich or poor, educated or uneducated, all people have the same basic needs- food, water, and shelter. Societies or communities struggle and die when the basic needs are not met. These basic needs form the foundation of life and outweigh other wants and desires. Acts 11:27-30 tells of a crisis of basic needs. Barnabas and Saul were in Antioch teaching when prophets came from Jerusalem. The prophet Agabus, filled with the Holy Spirit, predicted that a severe famine would occur in the Roman Empire. The Mediterranean world was often hit by famines due to poor weather conditions and crop performance.

The Bible frequently links the needs of the body with the needs of the soul. Jesus healed many individuals' physical ailments in order to save their souls. A person who is hungry cannot listen to a story of the Bread of Life until we have proven our love by filling his stomach. Preschoolers are driven by many impulses and needs, but none stronger than their physical needs.

Bible Story: A Church Helped Acts 11:19
Barnabas lived in Jerusalem. He believed in Jesus and wanted all people to know about Jesus. The people in the church in Jerusalem heard there was a new church in Antioch. They sent Barnabas to Antioch to see what the people were saying about Jesus. Barnabas was glad the people in Antioch were teaching other people about Jesus. He told the people in the church  to keep teaching the right things about Jesus. Many people in Antioch believed in Jesus.

Barnabas went to Tarsus to find Saul. Barnabas and Saul went back to Antioch to teach the people more about Jesus. They stayed in Antioch for one year. Many more people in Antioch believed in Jesus. The people in Antioch who believed in Jesus were called Christians.

A man named Agabus traveled from Jerusalem to Antioch. Agabus was a prophet. He told the church in Antioch that there would not be enough food for the people in Judea.

The church in Antioch wanted to help. They brought gifts for the people in Jerusalem. Every person brought as much as he could. They gave the gifts to Barnabas and Saul. Barnabas and Saul took their gifts to the people in the church in Jerusalem.

God planned for the people to help each other. The people in the Antioch church helped the people in Jerusalem.
Bible Truth: God wants people to help others.

Bible Verse: All the people helped. Acts 11:20

Level of Biblical Learning: I can be a part of God's work.

Level of Bible Skills: Knows each main part of the Bible is divided into smaller parts called books.
