FAMILY PLUS Preschool - June 28

Hi Parents and Grandparents,
Wow it is hard to believe that in couple of days we will be welcoming the month of July. I loved summer time as a child. I loved spending time with family and camping out in the back yard. Camping is still one of my favorite past times. I don't camp in the back yard as much. :) Speaking of camp...July 9th-13th is Preschool Daycamp here at The Glade. Click here to learn more about the camp. Deadline is July 1st so register soon. Limited space available.

This Sunday, July 1, 2012, your preschooler will hear this story -
Matthew and His Friends (Matthew 9:9-13)
Bible story brief -
• Matthew worked as a tax collector. A tax collector collected or took money from the people for the government. One day as Jesus was walking, He saw Matthew sitting in the tax collector’s booth. Jesus walked up to Matthew and said, “Follow Me.” Matthew left the tax collector’s booth immediately and went with Jesus. Matthew became Jesus’ friend and one of His disciples.
• Later at Matthew’s house, Jesus shared a meal with Matthew, the disciples, some tax collectors, and even some people who did things Jesus did not like. The church leaders did not like all of the people who were eating at Matthew’s house. The church leaders asked the disciples, “Why is Jesus eating with tax collectors and others who do wrong things?”
• Jesus answered, “I came to teach all people about God. God loves Matthew. God loves all of Matthew’s friends. God loves everyone.”

Bible Verse - Love others as you love yourself. Mark 12:31
Life Application - I can love all people.
Bible Truth - We can love people as Jesus did.

Your parent challenge this week - When your child experiences a conflict with a friend, look up the Bible verse and read it together. Say: “Sometimes it is hard, but we can ask God to help us love all people.” If possible, talk with both children about ways to solve the conflict.

This Sunday, June 24, 2012, your preschooler will hear this story -

Daniel Chose to Do What Was Right (Daniel 1:1-20)
Bible story brief -
• Daniel and his three friends lived in Jerusalem. King Nebuchadnezzar took them and other young men to live in his palace in Babylon. The king wanted them to become some of his special helpers. They would learn a new language and other things. The king wanted them to be strong and wise.
• The king wanted them to eat and drink the same food he ate. Daniel knew that God would not want him to eat rich food from the king’s table. Daniel chose to obey God. He asked if he could have different food to eat.
• The king’s helper liked Daniel, but he was afraid. He said, “If you do not eat the king’s food, the king may think you look worse than the other young men. He would be angry with me.”
• Daniel asked the guard, “Please give my friends and me only vegetables to eat and water to drink for 10 days. After 10 days, see if we look worse than the young men who are eating the king’s food.” The guard agreed to the test.
• After 10 days, the king’s helper looked at all the young men. Daniel and his friends looked healthier than those who had eaten the king’s food. The guard agreed to let Daniel and his friends continue to eat only vegetables.
• God helped Daniel and his friends understand everything they were taught. When the learning time was over, the king talked with the young men. Daniel and his friends were the strongest and wisest ones.

FAMILY PLUS Preschool - June 15

Hi Parents and Grandparents,

We had a blast this week at Summer Jam. The week went very well. A good time was had by all. I saw lots of smiles on children's faces. This week preschoolers learned that God loves them and will help them. The Bible verse for the week was “God is with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9. The lessons tie right into this weeks lesson with Nehemiah. When you pray, He will help you wherever you go.

Make sure you take a look at the save the dates below. You and your preschooler will not want to miss any of these exciting events.

This Sunday, June 17, 2012, your preschooler will hear this story -

Nehemiah Prayed  (Nehemiah 1:1-4; 2:1-8,17-18; 3; 6:15-16)
Bible Story Brief -
• Nehemiah worked for the king of Babylon. One day, men came to see Nehemiah. Nehemiah asked about the people who lived in the city of Jerusalem. The men told Nehemiah, “The people in Jerusalem are in trouble. The wall around the city is broken down. The gates of the city have been burned.”
• Nehemiah was sad about the city and its walls. He cried. He prayed and asked God what he should do.
• The king asked Nehemiah why he was sad. Nehemiah answered, “The wall around the city of Jerusalem has been broken down. The gates have been burned.”
• The king asked, “What do you want?” Nehemiah prayed to God. He answered the
king, “Let me go to Jerusalem and rebuild the wall around the city.” Nehemiah asked for the king’s help in traveling to Jerusalem. The king said Nehemiah could go to Jerusalem. He gave Nehemiah letters so he could travel safely. The king gave him wood.
• Nehemiah traveled to Jerusalem. He gathered all the people and told them about rebuilding the wall. Many people worked on the wall and the gates. They placed the wood pieces in place. They repaired the wall. Everyone worked hard and did their best work. They worked for 52 days. Nehemiah and the people in Jerusalem knew God had helped them. God cared for them and kept them safe as they worked.

Bible Verse - Pray to God. Matthew 6:6
Life Application - I can pray to God.
Bible Truth - I can pray to God.

Your parent challenge this week - While driving in the car, review the Bible story. Invite your child to look out the window and call out places where people can pray. Help your child conclude that he or she can pray to God anywhere.

Joshua and Caleb Chose to Obey God  (Numbers 13–14)
Bible Story Brief -
• God promised the people of Israel a new home in the land of Canaan. God told Moses to choose 12 men to go look at the land. Joshua and Caleb were two of the men.
“Go see if the people are strong or weak. See if the towns have high walls around them. See if the land is good for growing food,” Moses told the men. “Bring back some of the fruit from the land.”
• The 12 men traveled through Canaan. They looked at many of the towns. The men gathered fruit from the land.
• The 12 men were gone for 40 days. When they came back, they reported, “We went into the land of Canaan. The land is good for growing food.” • Some of the men said, “The people who live in Canaan are stronger and
bigger than we are. The towns have tall walls around them.” Caleb said,
“We should go and take the land. We can do it.” • The people became frightened and angry. Joshua and Caleb said, “The
land is a good place to live. God wants us to go into Canaan. He will give the land to us. Do not be afraid. God is with us and will help us. We should obey Him.”
