Caring for one another

Bible Story: Kind Dorcas Acts 9:36-43
Dorcas cared about people. She wanted to do kind things for them. She must have enjoyed doing things for others.
Dorcas liked to sew clothes. She gave the pretty clothes she made to people who needed them.

Dorcas must have worked hard to make the clothes. She helped people who did not have much money. The people probably said: "Thank you, Dorcas, for the new clothes. Thank you for being kind.
The people love Dorcas. She was their friend. The people must have said; "Dorcas cares about us. Thank You, for our kind friend Dorcas."

Bible Truth:
People can show love to others.

Bible Verse: Love other people and be kind. Luke 6:27

Bible Concept: I can help.

Bible Skill: Can hear Bible verses and relate to your preschoolers everyday activities.

God Loves All People
Whenever I feel like I am just another face in a crowd, I think about this story of Zacchaeus. Jesus, the Savior, knows our name, our location, and our needs. Out of the crowds, He chooses us as His children to be used for His purposes. Ask God to give you boldness to show His love to those who need Him. How do you think the crowd reacted about Jesus stopping and talking to Zacchaeus? Jesus telling him that He was coming to his house? The world tends to categorize people as haves and have-nots, acceptable and unacceptable, beautiful and not so beautiful. However, God does not see people in those terms. God only sees a person in need of Him. He wants all people to know about His love.

Bible Story: Zacchaeus Learned About God's Love Luke 19:1-10
Jesus was coming! People were standing everywhere. Everyone wanted to see Jesus, including a man named Zacchaeus. Zacchaeus was a tax collector. People did not like Zacchaeus because he took more tax money than he should.

Zacchaeus really wanted to see Jesus. But he was too short to see over the crowd of people. So Zacchaeus ran ahead of the crowd and climbed a tree. Now he would be able to see Jesus.
Jesus came to the tree where Zacchaeus was sitting. Jesus stopped and looked up at Zacchaeus. "Come down, Zacchaeus," said Jesus. "I want to go to your house today!" Zacchaeus quickly climbed down the tree. He was happy that Jesus was going to his house. The other people wondered why Jesus wanted to visit the man they did not like.

As Zacchaeus and Jesus talked, Zacchaeus knew that he had done some wrong things. Zacchaeus told Jesus, "I will help the poor people. If I have taken too much money from people, I will give them back all of their money and more."
What a happy day for Zacchaeus! He knew that Jesus loved him and God loved him, too.

Bible Truth: God wants all people to know about His love.

Bible Verse: God will always love me. Psalm 107:1

Level of Biblical Learning: The Bible tells me to love others in my community and world.

Level of Bible Skills: Knows each main part of the Bible is divided into smaller parts called books.

1's and 2's
This Sunday's story reminds us to do what God says. When the Lord spoke to Abram, he listened, obeyed and worshiped. When God speaks to us, do we obey quickly? Did you know that delayed obedience is disobedience. Our obedience demonstrates our faith in God and His promises.

Bible Story: Abram Did What God Said Genesis 12:1-9
One day God told Abram to move. "Take your family to a new land. I will show you where to go. I will take care of you,"  God told Abram.

Abram loved God, so he did what God said. Abram told his family what God said. Then Abram, his nephew Lot, and all the family worked together to pack their things. Soon they were ready to move. Abram's family and all their animals began their long trip. They walked and walked and walked.

When Abram's family got to their new home, Abram talked to God. He thanked God for taking care of him and his family on the long trip.

Bible Truth:
Doing what God says shows our love for Him.
Bible Verse: Do what God says. Deuteronomy 5:32
Bible Concept: God wants people to love Him.
Bible Skill: Associates God and Jesus with the Bible

Showing love to God. Exodus 19:9-25 explains the instructions God gave to help the Israelites to focus their minds on Him. He did not want the people to approach an encounter with Him unprepared or miss its significance. I wonder how often we approach worship experiences with our hearts and minds unprepared.  Obeying God's rules is important because it shows that we love God.

Bible Story: God Gave Rules to Moses Exodus 19:1-20
Moses and the people were moving to a new home. They walked for many days. Then Moses decided to camp in the desert in front of a mountain.

One day Moses left the camp and walked up the mountain. God talked to Moses on the mountain. God told Moses to remind the people how God had cared for them.

Moses walked back to the camp. He gathered the people together and told them what God had said. The peole listened carefully. The people said, 'We will do everything God wants us to do."

God told Moses and the people some rules. These rules would help them know how to live.

These are some of the rules God gave Moses:
  • Love me. I am God.
  • Love your father and mother and do what they tell you to do.
  • Do not take and keep something that belongs to someone else.
  • Always tell the truth.
God gave ten rules to the people. God loved the people. The people loved God and wanted to follow His rules.

Bible Truth: God wants me to follow His rules.
Bible Verse: Love your father and mother. Exodus 20:12

Level of Biblical Learning: God gives rules to help me know what to do.

Bible Story: God Gave Rules to Moses Exodus 19:1-20
Moses led the Israelites out of Egypt. God showed Moses where to go and what to do. God led them to camp at the bottom of a mountain.

Moses went up the mountain to talk to God. God said, "Moses, remind the people how I helped them leave Egypt. I kept them safe as they traveled here to this mountain. Tell them to listen to Me and do what I tell them to do. I am coming in a cloud to speak to you. Tell them to get ready - to wash all their clothes and to set up boundaries around the mountain. Tell them to look for a thick cloud and to listen for the sound of a trumpet."

Moses went down the mountain and told the people what God had said. They replied, "We will do what God tell us to do."

Moses went up the mountain to talk to God again. God wanted the people to know what they should do and how they could obey Him. God told Moses and the people to obey these ten special rules, or commandments.
  • Do not worship anyone but God. God is the only God.
  • Do not worship anything you have made.
  • Always say God's name in a respectful way.
  • Work on six days. On the seventh day, rest and worship God.
  • Honor and respect your mother and father.
  • Do not kill anyone.
  • Husbands and wives should keep their wedding promises.
  • Do not take something that belongs to someone else.
  • Do not tell lies about other people. Always tell the truth.
  • Do not wish for things that belong to other people.

Level of Biblical Learning:

Talk to God
God desires for us to become men or women of prayer because talking to God is a way we can show love to God. Sunday's story reminds us that prayer is powerful and effective.

Bible Story: Elijah Talked to God 1 Kings 18:1-2, 41-46
Elijah loved God. Elijah talked to God to know the right things to do and say.

One day Elijah talked to God and asked him to stop the rain. God heard Elijah. He did what Elijah asked. God stopped sending the rain. The ground became very dry. Food could not grow, the people were hungry.

After along time, God told Elijah, "Now I will send rain." Elijah hurried to the top of the mountain. He talked to God some more. Elijah's helper looked for clouds in the sky. Finally rain began to fall.

Elijah knew God heard him talk to Him. Elijah knew God would help.

Bible Story: Elijah Talked to God 1 Kings 18:1-21, 41-46
It had not rained for a long, long time. There had not been any rain to make the grass and plants grow. The people and animals needed food to eat and water to drink.
God told Elijah, "I will send rain. Go and tell the king."
After Elijah told the king, Elijah and his helper went up to the top of a mountain. Elijah talked to God (prayed). Elijah asked God to send rain.
Elijah told his helper to go and look toward the sea. The helper looked but saw no clouds.
"Go back," Elijah said. One, two, three, four, five, six times Elijah told his helper to look. On the seventh time, Elijah's helper saw a very small cloud out over the sea. It was about the size of a man's hand. Elijah knew God had heard his prayer.
Soon there were more dark clouds in the sky. The wind began to blow. Rain began to fall. Now the grass and plants could grow. The animals and people would have food to eat.

All About God

Bible Story: God Helped the People Leave Egypt
"Get up! Take your people and your animals and go worship your God," Pharaoh said. Moses and his brother Aaron told the Israilite people to get ready. They asked the Egyptians for clothers. They asked the Egyptians for silver and gold. The Egyptians gave them all that they asked for. The Iraelites hurried to pack their things. They did not even have time to add yeast to their bread dough.

Soon all the men, all the women, all the children, and all their animals were ready to go. They walked along behind Moses and Aaron, leaving Egypt behind.

But it was not long before Pharaoh changed his mind. He wanted the Israelites to come back. The Israelites were afraid of Pharaoh, and they did not want to go back to Egypt. They saw Pharaoh and his army behind them. They saw the Red Sea in front of them. What could they do? Moses prayed to God for help.

God made a big wind blow the water of the Red Sea back. The Israelites walked across on dry ground! A wall of water was on their left. A wall of water was on their right. But they kept walking. After all the people had crossed, God closed the sea again. When they reached the other side, they sang songs of thanks to God. God had helped the Israelites leave Egypt.

Level of Biblical Learning:

As you read this story about Noah this week think about this question. When you receive instructions from the Lord, what is your first response? Noah did everything God asked him to do. Noah built the boat just the way God said. Then Noah and his family and every kind of animal got on the boat.

Noah Loved God Genesis 6:9-10, 14-22

Noah was a good man who loved God. One day God told Noah to build a big boat (an ark). God told Noah exactly how to build the ark. God told Noah how long the ark should be, how tall it should be, and where to put the door.

God explained to Noah that is was going to rain for many, many days. God said that Noah and his family would be safe in the ark. God also told Noah to take two of every kind of animal with him into the ark. God reminded Noah to take food for his family and the animals.

Noah worked hard to get the ark ready. He did everything God had told him to do. When the boat was finished, Noah and his family and two of every kind of animal got onto the arkt. God shut the door, and it began to rain.

The rain came down for 40 days and 40 nights, but Noah and his family were safe inside the ark. When the rain finally stopped, Noah waited a long time for all the water to dry up. One day God said, "Come out of the boat. Bring your family and animals with you."

God knows everything about each and everyone of us. He knows every single thing about every single person who has ever lived. This Sunday we will talk about a time when God showed Pharaoh that He knows EVERYTHING.

Bible Story: God Helped Pharaoh Genesis 41:1-4, 8-12, 14-21, 28-49, 46-50, 53-55
Pharaoh, the king of Egypt, had a dream about seven large cows and seven small cows. The seven small cows ate up the seven large cows.

When Pharaoh woke up, he was worried. He did not know what the dream meant. Pharaoh told his wise helpers his dream. None of them could tell Pharaoh what his dream meant.

One of Pharaoh's servants said, "I know someone who can tell you what your dream means. His name is Joseph. "Pharaoh quickly sent for Joseph.

Pharaoh said to Joseph, "I've heard that you can tell me what my dream means. "Joseph replied, "I cannot, but God can give you an answer." Pharaoh told Joseph about his dream.

Joseph said, "God has shown you what He is about to do. For seven years, Egypt will have plenty of food. But, for the next seven years, not enough food will grow. You should look for a wise man to put in charge of the land. Collect and store extra grain for Egypt to use when there is not enough food."

Pharaoh said to Joseph, "God has told you all of this. You are wise. I want you to be in charge."

For seven years, plenty of food grew. Joseph gathered all the extra food and stored it in cities in Egypt. he stored so much grain that he could not count all of it. After seven years, people could not grow enough food. The countries around Egypt did not have enough food. When people needed food, Pharaoh told them, "Joseph will tell you what to do." Josheph opened the storerooms and sold food to the people.

Bible Story: God Promised Abraham and Sarah a Baby Genesis 12
Abram and his wife Sarai (SEHR igh) had moved to a new land. Abram was 75 years old. They had no children.

When Abram was 99 years old, God spoke to him. God made a promise to Abram. God told Abram He would make Abram's family huge.
Tod changed Abram's name. God said, "Your name will no longer be Abram. Your new name will be Abraham because you will be the father of many nations. "This meant Abraham would have many, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. people everywhere would know that Abraham's grandchildren and great-grandchildren were part of his family.

God changed Sarai's name, too. Her new name would be Sarah. God told Abraham that a year later his wife Sarah would have a son. Abraham laughed at the idea that Sarah would have a baby when she was 90 and he was 100 years old! But he knew that God kept His promises. God told Abraham to name their son Isaac. The name Isaac means laughter.

A year later, Sarah had a baby boy, just as God had said she would. Abraham and Sarah named their son Isaac as God had told them to do. Abraham had a party to celebrate the birth of Isaac. God had kept His promise to Abraham.

All of the people were coming to hear Ezra. A big stage and had been built where Ezra would stand. Ezra, a teacher, was going to read from the Bible scroll.

Ezra started reading the Bible to the people. They listened quietly. The people loved God. They wanted to learn more about God.
While Ezra read, some men helped the people understand what the words meant. The people became sad. They had not been doing what God wanted them to do.
The men told the people, "Do not be sad. This is a special day. God wants you to be happy. Go home and cook some good food. Share your food with people who do not have food to eat."
All of the people went to their homes. They cooked food and shared it with others. Everyone was happy. The people had learned more about God. They knew what God wanted them to do.
