FAMILY PLUS Preschool - November 8

Hi Parents and Grandparents!

This week's story is about the greatest of all prophets, Elijah! He was another ordinary man that did extraordinary things with God. He was the greatest because the Bible talks about him coming to prepare God's people for the Lord's coming. Elijah believed in God and obeyed Him.

I get the opportunity to hear our preschoolers praying sweet prayers all the time. Praying for their needs, praying for things that they love, and praying for things that they are thankful for. Sometimes we get caught up praying for things we want and want a quick answer. I think we miss answers sometimes because it is not the answer we were looking for. Answers from God come in many ways, they are yes, no, or maybe later. No and later are the answers we sometimes get upset with, but Psalm 46:10 says "Be still and know that I am God." In this story Elijah prayed for rain and God sent it after seven times of praying for it.

Perfect timing for The Great I Am: A Worship Encounter with the God Who IS, November 17th and 18th.

This Sunday, November 11, 2012, your preschooler will hear this story -

Elijah Prayed to God 1 Kings 18:1-2,41-46; James 5:17-18
Bible Story Brief -
• It had not rained for three years. The plants could not grow. There was not enough food to eat. The people needed rain.
• God spoke to His prophet Elijah and said, “Go tell King Ahab I will send rain.” Elijah obeyed God.
• He went to King Ahab and said, “God says it will rain soon. Go; eat and drink before the heavy rain comes.” King Ahab listened to Elijah. He went to eat and drink.
• Elijah climbed to the top of Mount Carmel to pray. He bowed to the ground. Then Elijah told his servant,“Go and look toward the sea.”The servant went, looked, and came back. “I do not see anything,” he said.
• Seven times Elijah prayed and sent his servant to look toward the sea for a rain cloud. On the seventh time, the servant returned and said, “I see a cloud the size of a man’s hand.” Elijah said, “Go to King Ahab. Tell him to get his chariot ready and go to Jezreel before the rain begins.”
• Black clouds were in the sky.The wind began to blow. Drop, drop, drop. A heavy rain began to fall. Elijah ran to Jezreel ahead of King Ahab. God heard Elijah’s prayers. God sent the rain.
