FAMILY PLUS Preschool "Jesus Is Alive!!" - March 28

Dear Parents and Grandparents,

I have included the details for this weekend. There are no groups for adults or kids on Easter.  We will have childcare for ages birth - 3 year olds. You will sign them in as normal and take them to their class rooms. Since there are no groups this Sunday, I have included the Easter story for you and your preschooler to share together.

We have 4 one-hour services. There are no groups for adults or kids on Easter. 

Below are the service times:

3/30 - 7pm

3/31 - 8am, 9:30am, 11am

We will have 2 Indoor Easter Egg Hunts for birth-5th grade. The Egg Hunts will be at 9:05am and 10:35am in the following areas...

Birth-Kindergarten will hunt in the Fellowship Hall

1st-2nd Grade will hunt in the Big Backyard

3rd-5th Grade will hunt in the Upstairs Rec/Karate Room

This Sunday, March 31, 2013, Enjoy sharing this story with your preschooler -

Jesus is Alive! John 20:1-18

Bible Story Brief -
• Early in the morning, Mary Magdalene walked toward a garden outside Jerusalem. She was sad. Jesus had died on the cross. Mary Magdalene was going to see the tomb where Jesus had been buried for three days. When she arrived at the tomb, she saw that the big heavy stone had been rolled away from the opening.The tomb was empty!
• Mary ran to find Peter and John, two of Jesus’ disciples. “They have taken Jesus from the tomb,” Mary said. “I don’t know where they have put Him!” Peter and John ran to the tomb and looked inside. They saw pieces of cloth that had been wrapped around Jesus’ body. Jesus was gone.
• Peter and John went home, but Mary Magdalene stood near the tomb, crying. Mary bent over to look inside the tomb again. She saw two angels sitting where Jesus’ body had been. “Why are you crying?” the angels asked. “Someone took Jesus away. I don’t know where He is,” she replied.
• Mary Magdalene turned around and saw a man standing nearby.“Why are you crying? For whom are you looking?” He asked. Mary thought the man was the gardener. She said, “If you’ve taken Jesus away, please tell me where He is.”
• “Mary,” the man said. She knew that voice. The man was Jesus! Jesus said, “Go and tell My disciples you have seen Me.” Mary Magdalene ran and found the disciples. She said, “I have seen Jesus! He is alive!”

Life Application -  I can begin to understand that Jesus died on the cross and is alive.

Bible Truth - Jesus is alive.

Bible Verse - Jesus is alive! Matthew 28:7

Your Parent Challenge - Notice with your child things in nature that are alive. Comment: “Jesus had died on the cross, but He is alive.”

FAMILY PLUS "Hosanna for Jesus" - March 21

Next Sunday March 31st is Easter. I hope you had a chance to invite people to our services. I have included details about the weekend services. Childcare will be available for babies through 3 years olds. 

Easter Weekend

Join us for Easter weekend, March 30-31, 2013.
4 one-hour services featuring:

• Dynamic music
   
• Celebration of baptism
   
• A compelling message about Jesus
   
• An Indoor Egg Hunt at 9:05 a.m. (after the 8:00 a.m. service) and 10:35 a.m. (after the 9:30 a.m. service).
   
• Childcare for babies through age 3
   
• Complimentary refreshments Saturday evening and a complimentary continental breakfast on Sunday morning before and after all services (coffee, juice, pastries, and fruit)

This Sunday, March 21, 2013, your preschooler will hear this story -

 

Hosanna for Jesus Matthew 21:1-11,14-16

Bible Story Brief -
• Jesus and His disciples were walking to Jerusalem.They came near to the town called Bethphage (BETH fuh jee). Jesus said to two of His disciples, “Go into town.You will find a mother donkey and her colt there. Bring them to Me. ”The two disciples found the donkeys and brought them to Jesus. They spread their coats on the young donkey. Jesus sat on the coats and began riding to Jerusalem.
• Along the way, people spread their coats on the road. Others cut branches from palm trees and spread them on the road. As Jesus passed by, the people praised Him.They shouted,“Hosanna! Hosanna!”
• In the city, people were asking, “Who is this man?” The crowds answered, “This is Jesus.”
• When Jesus came to the temple, He healed people who were blind and people who could not walk. Children in the temple called, “Hosanna! Hosanna!” to Jesus.
• Some men were upset when they saw the things Jesus did and heard the children praising Him. “Jesus,” they asked, “do You hear those children?”
• “Yes,” Jesus answered. “Haven’t you read what the Bible says? God planned for children to praise Him.” Jesus knew that the children were doing what God wanted them to do.

Life Application - I can thank God for His Son, Jesus.

Bible Truth - People praised God for Jesus.

Bible Verse - This is Jesus. Matthew 21:11

Your Parent Challenge - Palm trees in the form of houseplants are often included in the plant section of grocery stores and even in some restaurants. Take time to introduce your child to the palm tree. Comment: “In your Bible story this week, people waved large palm branches from big palm trees.” Use your own words to review the Bible story.

FAMILY PLUS - Who made the animals? - March 7

Hi Parents and Grandparents!

 

Ask your child: “What is your favorite animal?" If possible, visit a zoo or wildlife center. Ask: “Who made all of the animals?” Use your own words to review the Bible story.

This Sunday, March 10, 2013, your preschooler will hear this story -

God Created Animals Genesis 1:20-25,30-31

Bible Story Brief -
• In the beginning, God created the world. God created day and night, the sky and the clouds, oceans and land, trees and plants. He created the sun, moon, and stars. Four days had passed.
• On the fifth day, God saw that the seas and sky were empty. God said, “Let the oceans be filled with things that live and move in the water. Let birds with wings fly above the earth across the sky.” So God created all kinds of living things in the seas—every kind of fish and water animal. God created all kinds of birds to fly in the sky. He planned for more fish and birds to be born. God saw that what He created was good.
• On the sixth day, God said, “Let animals live on the land. Let there be all kinds of livestock (animals that people keep and raise) and wild animals and crawling animals. ”All kinds of animals appeared on the land—wild animals, crawling creatures, and livestock. God saw that it was good.
• God finished by creating people. He made a man and a woman.
• On the seventh day, God rested.

Bible Verse - God made the animals. Genesis 1:25

Life Application - I can thank God for the animals He created.

Bible Truth - God created fish, birds, and animals.

In The Beginning

Hi Parents and Grandparents!

Spend time outdoors with your child. Look for things God has created. Ask: “Who created this?” Review the Bible story at bedtime.

This Sunday, March 3, 2013, your preschooler will hear this story -

God Created the World Genesis 1:1-19

Bible Story Brief -
• In the beginning, there was only God. God chose to create the world. The earth was dark and empty and covered with water. There were no plants, trees, or flowers; no animals, birds, or fish; and no people.
• On the first day, God said, “Let there be light.” Light began to shine. God separated the light from the darkness. He called the light day and the darkness night.
• On the second day, God separated the waters. He called the space between the waters sky.
• On the third day, God said, “Let the water on the earth gather together and dry ground appear.” God called the dry ground land. He called the gathered water seas. Then God said, “Let plants and trees grow on the land.” Each kind of plant had seed to make more plants like it grow. Each kind of tree had fruit with seed.
• On the fourth day, God made lights in the sky. The lights separated day from night. They showed the seasons and years. God created the bright sun for day and the moon and stars to shine at night.
• God looked at everything He had created. He saw that all of it was good.

FAMILY PLUS Preschool - February 21

Hi Parents and Grandparents!

As you prepare your child for the story this week or you talk about it after Sunday, look online at pictures of storms. Listen as your child expresses his or her feelings about storms. Talk about how the disciples must have felt. Help your child understand that fear is a normal emotion. Talk about ways Jesus helps us when we are afraid. Pray with your child, asking God to help you and your child remember that He is always with you—even in a storm.  

This Sunday, February 21, 2013, your preschooler will hear this story -

Jesus Calmed the Storm Mark 4:1-2,35-41

Bible Story Brief -
• One day a large crowd of people gathered around Jesus near the lake. They wanted to hear what He would tell them about God. There were so many people they had a hard time hearing and seeing Him. So Jesus got into a boat on the lake and sat in it to teach. That way the people would be able to hear and see Him better. Jesus spoke to the people, telling them many stories to help them learn about God.
• When evening came, Jesus said to His disciples, “Let’s go over to the other side of the lake. ”They left the crowd behind and began to sail to the other side. Some other boats sailed with them, too. Jesus moved to the back of His boat and lay down to rest. Soon He was fast asleep.
• A big storm came up.Waves crashed over the boat. It was about to sink, and the disciples were afraid. They went to Jesus and said, “Wake up! We’re in danger!”
• Jesus stood up. He told the wind to stop and the waves to be still. Then the wind stopped! The waves became calm and still!
• The disciples saw that Jesus could calm a storm.They could hardly believe what had happened.They said, “Even the wind and the waves obey Jesus!” The disciples knew that Jesus cared for them even when they were afraid.

Bible Verse - Jesus went about doing good. Acts 10:38

Life Application - I can understand that Jesus helps people in many different ways.

Bible Truth - Jesus helped people who were afraid.

FAMILY PLUS Preschool - February 15

Hi Parents and Grandparents!

For the past several weeks I have been teaching your preschoolers in Wee Worship. They always amaze me with questions and their knowledge. Last week a kindergartener said to the group, "God and Jesus are the same!" One of his friends spoke up and said, "No, God and Jesus are not the same. Jesus is God's son!" I know sometimes we think they are not listening but I can promise you they are.  In case you don't know what Wee Worship is, Wee Worship (Sunday mornings 10:45) for ages 3-Kindergarten. Wee Worship lets preschoolers worship like preschoolers. Wee Worship will bring Bible stories to life and bring the day’s Bible truth home in ways preschoolers will understand. We sing songs that have motions to lift hearts and hands to God. I hope your preschooler can join us this Sunday.

This Sunday, February 17, 2013, your preschooler will hear this story -
Jesus Helped 10 Lepers Luke 17:11-19
Bible Story Brief -
• Jesus was traveling to Jerusalem.As He started to enter a village, He saw 10 men standing away from the city.They were sick with leprosy, a bad skin disease.They had sores all over their bodies, and they could not get close to people. If they got too close, the other people would get sick, too.
• The 10 men had heard about Jesus. When they heard that Jesus was coming near their village, they shouted to Jesus. “Help us!” they shouted. Jesus loved them and wanted to help them. He said, “Go to the priests (church leaders). Show them your arms and legs.”
• The men started walking. As they walked, they noticed that the leprosy was ... gone! All the sores on their bodies had disappeared. Jesus had healed them! It was a miracle! Jesus had healed the sick men!
• One of the men stopped walking. He turned around and ran back to Jesus. In a loud voice, the man praised and thanked God. The man knelt down in front of Jesus. “Thank You, Jesus!” the man said. Jesus replied, “Get up and go on your way.” Then Jesus said, “Were not 10 healed? Where are the other nine?” Out of the 10 lepers who were healed, only one came back and thanked Jesus.

Bible Verse -  A man saw that he was healed. Luke 17:15

Life Application - I can understand that Jesus healed people.

Bible Truth - Jesus healed sick people.

Your weekly parent challenge/activity - If possible, place the numbers 1—10 (magnetic numbers) on the refrigerator. Help your child identify each number and place the numbers in order from left to right. Tell the Bible story. Ask your child, “How many of the 10 lepers told Jesus thank you?” (1)

FAMILY PLUS Preschool - February 7

This Sunday, February 10, 2013, your preschooler will hear this story -

Jesus Fed a Crowd John 6:1-13

Bible story brief -
• Jesus traveled across the Sea of Galilee.A crowd of people followed Him.They had seen Jesus heal many sick people.
• Jesus sat down with His disciples on a mountainside. He saw the crowd of people walking toward Him. Jesus knew the people were hungry. He said to Philip, “Where can we buy bread for all these people to eat?”
• Philip answered, “To buy bread for all these people would take a lot of money.”
• Andrew said, “A boy here has five small loaves of barley bread. He also has two small fish. But how can this boy’s small amount of food feed such a large crowd of hungry people?”
• Jesus said, “Tell the people to sit down.” All the people sat on the grass.About
5,000 men and many women and children were in the crowd. Jesus took the loaves of barley bread. He prayed and thanked God for the bread. He gave the people as much bread as they wanted. He took the fish, thanked God, and gave fish to the people, too.
• When all the people had eaten all the bread and fish they wanted, Jesus told His disciples, “Gather the leftover food. Do not waste any of the food.” The disciples gathered 12 baskets of leftover bread.
• Jesus fed the hungry people. He wanted the people to know that He loved them and cared for them.


Bible Verse -  Jesus gave food to people. John 6:11

Life Application -  I can understand that Jesus loved people and met their needs.

Bible Truth -  Jesus helped hungry people.
